Electronic Arts and Dice have posted a new Community Update (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/editorial.jsp?src=communityupdate_060206), acknowledging that the most recent patch file was FUBAR and that Mod Support for Battlefield 2 is SNAFU.
The teams here at DICE and at EA want to take a moment to acknowledge that we are aware of the issues that some are experiencing with the latest release.
We are continuing our work to review and find potential solutions to the problems affecting many players and server admins. We are also reviewing recent changes to servers and gameplay.
While we continue our work internally we want to remind everyone to keep using the EA forums to provide feedback. We review the comments in these and other forums regularly while we consider the direction of Battlefield.
We also want to assure to the mod community that we understand the difficulties you have worked through and we are continuing to look for ways to help everyone and find ways to promote all of the mods and their hard working teams.
MOTS.
Piggyback Update: New BF2 Booster pack - Armored Fury (http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/battlefield2/us/home.jsp)!

Things never seem to change with this EA and DICE duo; buggy, glitchy release, followed by slow, and just as buggy patches. I think I'm done with this franchise. The formula is still fun, but I'm sick of DICE. Here's hoping Quake Wars delivers.

I got BF2 for christmas last year. I haven't played it that much. Was it the 450MB+ patch required? Or perhaps the several accounts I had to create due to the fact I could never auto login. Maybe it was the CD Key error that never went away, even after reinstalling.
Quake Wars can't come soon enough......

Just updated, another booster map pack is coming.
I didn't have time for Quake Wars, but it looked solid.

Armoured Fury is a crap concept. I can vaguely conceive China perhaps making a landing into Alaska or something with a lot of difficulty and damage, but how the fuck would the MEC troops even get on to US soil? They'd need a navy capable of... sailing the European side of the Atlantic (where the EU is also at war with them, so that's many of the most powerful navies on one side of it) and then the American side, where they'd have to face the US Navy.
Stupid crap design.

Well i've not been able to play since 2 patches ago, damn thing just crashes to desktop as it should be joining the server. Frankly i just don't care anymore.... i can load up counterstrike, get owned and have my sexuality questioned 4 or 5 times in the time it takes for the server list to refresh in BF2.

Same here, the last patch makes me just crash to my desktop. Fuck it.

Yes, the controversial EA/DICE take on anthropomorphic sexually-active animals in modern armour, 'Battlefield 2: Armored Furry'.

The booster pack's out on 6/6/6. D-Day!
I'm having serious issues with the game right now. After the last patch, half of my maps are giving me "Unmodified content blah blah blah" errors trying to connect to servers.
So I uninstalled, and now, I can't get the game to re-install and repatch. If the patching process fails part way through, you can run the patch again, and the patch will complete, but you get a messed up error about the P-90 model not being there. And it takes 50 fucking minutes to reinstall and repatch everything. *sigh*
They need to release a DVD set with all four BF2 games on one DVD, patched to the latest version so we can just install that.

EA gave me access to the Armored Fury booster pack about a week ago and it's a lot of fun. The new maps are solid - much better than the ones in Euro Force. The new chopper is a blast and the new jets are a ton of fun for ground busting. They have no AA radar / missiles though which makes dogfights gun only battles. :)

I've never really had many serious problems with BF2. And this news is a day old. Also, where is that 6/6 release date posted?

I had that exact problem. the new sniper rifle gave the same weird message. You have to uninstall everything completly, delete the install folder and start from scratch. i have to do it every time they release a patch. it fucking sucks but i love bf2.
Install from dvd, then if you have it, install bf2:sf, which will patch, then use the 1.3 complete patch on it, then install bf2:ef if you have it. if you dont have those addons, just use the 1.3 complete patch.

Wow, BF2 seems like an old school game.
Crazy patches that screw the game up and require a random order of installation, constant stream of mini expansions for sale and a buggy core game that has poorly implented features and needs reinstallation to fix.
It's like 1997 came back all over again!

I have had BF2 since release date also and I have had nothing but GREAT times with this game. Runs great for me I guess I am one of the lucky few.

I think I found the problem with the installer. There's an InstallTable service that runs, apparently installed by Quicktime or some such.
Disabling it allowed me to install and patch without corrupting my files.
Funny, I had the exact same problem with Dawn of War and WA. I think that Installer Table service might be the problem for both!

Ill try that next patch (if i remember), but its actually a service that is installed by InstallShield and will come with any newer version of it.

I'm with you on this one, I've had no problems. Although a friend of mine had one weird problem, all the textures blurred out and the whole game world was Gouroud (spelling??) shaded, it looked pretty sweet!
I do wish they'd nerf the jets though, they really piss me off
