The stated reason we can't edit in the News section, as it's been told to me, is that they don't want people to submit front page articles and then be able to change that content once it's up.
However, since each news item must be moderated before it's posted, and this usually takes hours not minutes that's never going to be a problem.
What you need is just a time limit on editing in the news section. How about a ONE to THREE measly minute edit period in the news section, so that 99.99999% of everyone else that uses these forums apart from news post originators can actually edit their posts?
I'll make it easy for you, I'll link you info on how to actually set this up in vBulletion. It's really easy.
It's called a "per forum edit time limit". Yes, you can set it per forum with a simple plugin:

How to set per-forum time limit:

Time Limit on Editing of Posts
Time limit (in minutes) to impose on editing of messages. After this time limit only moderators will be able edit or delete the message. 1 day is 1440 minutes.
Set the value to 0 to allow users to edit their posts indefinitely.

It can even be done on the basis of usergroups (http://www.vbulletinsetup.com/439-vbulletin-services/65082-paid-request-urgent-per-forum-edit-time-limit-group-permissions.html). What about a "donator usergroup" that gets edit rights? Thus offering a small but substantial incentive to become an contributor?
Now, no one has ever explained to me why talking about edit permissions is taboo on this site, and why no red has ever, ever answered even my private messages to them about this topic. So I really don't know if this thread is going to be instantly deleted and hostility directed my way.
Just know that you guy's mismanagement of the editing options is what keeps Evil Avatar.com from being 100% a pleasure to haunt.
Instead it's about 90% pleasure, and when a bad post comes along that you typed up in the passion of the moment and posted before realizing there's some grammar problem, then it's super frustrating.
Sure, as reds you guys don't feel this frustration. You can edit whatever the hell you want. That doesn't make our frustration less. And it's worse that you've given some users, like Johan, edit privileges, seemingly without rhyme nor reason (much less merit), creating an unfair, disparate situation.
We wants edits nao!
