In this extremely old TV commercial we get a glimpse of the original NES/Famicom lightgun. Apparently in the mid 80s in Japan they weren't too concerned with a lightgun looking like a real gun. Anyone think an realistic gun extension will launch with the Wii? :P

Good call on the redesign then. It looks way too out of place.

Originally? I used a six shooter, as (kind of) seen here

Granted that looks ripped out of an arcade, but the one I used did indeed go into a NES, it was at a friend's house, bastard had Duck Hunt.
Did always prefer the more laserie one.

The six shooter gun looks terrible. the way it ended up looking is way cooler.

I actually kind of dig the revolver. I'd use that one, if I had the choice. Maybe it's the association with shootouts in westerns and Dirty Harry, or the more primal, tactile aspects of a gun with the ammo so visible. I don't know, it just seems more stylish.
for those that are new to nintendo, here's some learnin' material for you:

The lightgun is a very important part of the Wii appeal to me...since I have an HDTV, I really hope Namco digs in and makes me repurchase all their Time Crisis games so I can enjoy them on my 50" TV. And I'd still play it in the arcade too...not that they haven't already gotten tons of money from me already.
But I too hope they have a simple gun housing, nothing like the super scope.
Here's what I would like to see come bundled with the Wii...the console, 2 wiimotes, some sort of homage to SMB and duckhunt from the NES days (perhaps an updated duck hunt), a light gun shell, and maybe a classic controller. There is so much IP that they could just toss at the launch of this thing for free to entice people, without seriously disturbing their bottom line, that I hope I don't get my hopes to highup.
