Check out this Age of Conan video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGyvHbV_UqE&search=Age%20of%20Conan) which shows over six minutes of game play. It displays two elements I had no idea were in this game:

1. ranged combat from horseback
2. RTS-style game play

ah yes, looks sweet. Definitly been keeping my eye on this little gem. But quickly have AO flashbacks... :/

I dunno... If I were them, I would have let this cook a little more before showing it off. I watched another E3 video and the male character just really turned me off the game... I mean, could he possibly look like an even bigger slackjawed retard every time they showed his face? He just has this perpetual "Uhhhhh... uhhhhh..." look on his face. I'm sure (or at least I hope) by the time they're really done with the game that won't be the case, but for right now, not something I would have shown off to a curious public.

Steve_Erhardt:

I had a similiar reaction to the official stuff I saw from E-3. That's why this video was so refreshing for me. It doesn't look done by any means, but it looks interesting. The addition of RTS-style material in an MMO is a really wierd idea. I'll be withholding judgement until I've heard from some folks in whatever beta they're bound to have, but I'm intrigued to say the least.

For my money, Warhammer Online seems more intriguing.

I think it could be good. Except for Bugs, and Lag. Yeah, realtime player driven combat with many people seems a prime chance for lag.

If it does everything it seems to want to do, I will uninstall WoW and worship Fun Com.

Yep as Big a Conan fan I am...I think they are reaching too far on this one. Is it a MMO a Action RPG a RTS??? Seems they are trying to be all things to all people and we know how that always turns out.

Unless it turns out to be un-fucking-believable I’ll be waiting on WAR. Now back to my Winter Assault game. :P

I have trouble keeping up with the information on this game, I've heard that the first 20 levels are purely offline, that the MMO portion will not have a monthly fee, and I've heard conflicting reports about large portions of the game being instanced and playing a lot like Guild Wars. I'd really like to see a straight up story detailing how exactly all this stuff ties together into one cohesive game, as it seems the only thing that comes down the pipe is little official bits and pieces extolling the virtue of one particular feature.

The game definitely looks interesting, but I'd like to see some concrete info on the basic gameplay rather than the features.

Been doing a lot of research on this game the past month or so. The RTS building comes from forming a guild. There's -huge- incentive right now to join or start a guild in this game. One is you can build your own little village (with defenses as shown). None of the action takes place in an RTS fashion as I understand it. The instancing would most likely come from when one guild decides to invade another's village. Most likely because you simply can't just have 200 user made towns lying about.

So how does one access another guild's village, is there any kind of actual MMO style over world, or is it more like Guild Wars with a series of glorified lobbies for grouping for the instanced content?

What are gonna be the minimum requirements on this thing? Looks like it could suffer greatly with lag. Looks good, just hope they can actually pull it off.

I'm interested in this one, but there's a whole lot of interesting MMO's in development at the moment. But I will be watching it closely.

There are only certain sites on each map where a city can be built. I think 6-7 per zone is a figure I read. There will be different zones for pvp and pve. In the pvp zones, you slug it out vs other guilds for control of a city site and resources (there is no RvR in AoC). In the PvE zones, mobs will build on these sites, so you first have to evict the mobs from the village they built, then burn it down, and build your own. You will also have to defend your city from attacking mobs... ala pictish hordes.

Building a large village is the only way to get access to high level/high quality crafted items, and the item quality is expected to go quest rewards > 'best crafted' > 'average crafted' = drops. Something like that anyways. You can go here (http://www.conan.ch/conanonline/interview_quotes.htm) for a compilation of dev quotes about the game to get an idea what they are trying to do. So far I'm interested but a) not sure if they'll pull it off technically while keeping it fun and b) its a little fugly.

Looking forward to the great casual versus hardcore debate from AoC (But I don't want to be part of a 100 man drone army to form a village, why should they ge the best crafted/drops? type complaints).

So far its nothing compared to the 'waaah, I don't want to be in a guild" complaints, but maybe it will pick up :)

Still holding my breath on this one. Please be good, please be good, please be good... My needs are simple. Cleave my enemies in two, bathe in their blood, and move on to the next foe...

This game is currently in pre-alpha stage from what I hear. Therefore at this point I wouldn't trust any feature not to change. The final name may (MAY!) have the word Conan in it. Thats as far as I will go with any MMO thats in a pre-alpha state.

The game does look interesting, so I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Funcom tends to put the FU in fun. I'm looking at this one with intrest but caution.

If I can kill thulsa doom, fight picts and others, screw hundreds of tavern wenches... all that in those first 20 levels, and then play a PVP mmo for free, i'm in!

I don't think its so much folks not wanting to be in a Guild Reimomo, it's more of Folks don't want to be in a guild with 40-100 immature Cocksuckers, and have to deal with some Asswpie He-Diva of a Guild leader. While there are some guilds that aren't like this 98% of them are, people aren't going to put up with shit like that no matter how many phat epics you wave in front of their noses. Yeah the loot whores will but that's about it.

ranged combat from horseback? where? it's not on the video ..or do you mean mounted combat with lances? cuz that's there

oh and rts is only a very small part of the game ..I dont even think anyone but guild leaders can do it ..and even then it's takes days, not minutes

the game's focus is real time combat

btw, Hi everyone, my first post but I'm a long time lurker

Welcome! You're right about the video not showing ranged combat form horseback, but the narrator mentions that use of bows and some magic will be possible from horseback.

But yeah...the last minute or so shows using lance while on horseback and said groups of horsemen will be able to form a cavalry. That's nuts!

ya it's still up in the air whether ranged combat from horseback will be implemented (I really hope so) ..but in a combat situation I can see a formation of archers firing volleys of arrows at oncoming calvary charges ..wouldnt that be a sight to see?
