Not sure if this is worthy of front page news, but Gametrailers.com (http://www.gametrailers.com/) - Best of E3 Awards (http://www.gametrailers.com/e32k6bestof.php) videos are available..

Nominees were narrowed down to five per category. With the exception of the “Best Trailer Award,” in order to be considered for a nomination, all nominees must have been playable by the press at the show. Nominees were chosen by the expert editorial staff at GameTrailers during an extended debate session that caused more than a few heated conversations.Go watch them now!! :)

Anyone else watch the first 5 trailers and be struck how political the selection process must have been? I mean, I guess it's just common sense that all the major websites have to be careful not to tick off any one of Sony, MS, or Nintendo, but it looked like they were careful to give each player an award.

Best of Show: Assassin's Creed (Multiplatform--PS3 & Xbox 360)
Best Trailer: MGS4 (PS3... naturally--lol)
Most innovative: WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Nintendo)
Best Graphics: Crysis (PC)
Best Hardware: Xbox 360 (MS)

Now that looks to be a politically correct list if I ever saw one. Of course, I -do- think it's funny that they gave the "Best Hardware" award to the 360. Perhaps this is reflective of the fact that it was the only finalized console hardware at the show. Also, I disagree on AC beating out Gears of War for Best of Show, although I have to admit that that's a pretty close call (unless you consider the fact that GoW is near final and fully playable).

As far as I can tell, Assassin's Creed is PS3 only. Am I missing something there?

Crysis won several awards. Overall, watching a bunch of those videos made me pretty excited about the upcoming gaming scene.

Best adventure action: Zelda TP
Best sports: wii sports
Best fighting: Virtua fighter 5
Best wii: Zelda TP
Best PC: Crysis
Best DS: Zelda hourglass
Best shooter: Crysis

These i can name out of the top of my head. Forgot what the other winners were.

Does indeed look politically correct. Especially the Nintendo titles.

I rather like X-Play's videos. Funny stuff, and just feels 'real'.

"We can't tell if these games are actually any good until we get the final product, so be sure and check back. Because if they suck, we'll need somebody to complain to, and that's you!"

Well, I thought I recalled hearing a confirmation about this at some point, but here's the best I could find with a quick search:

http://www.ferrago.com/story/7756

Apparently, the rumor of AC on the 360 started because demos of AC at E3 were using 360 controllers.

Anyone else find a different article to support/refute this?

AC was announced for 360 back in X05 and Ubi doesn't really do exclusives(Red Steel is an exception).

Why wasn't NWN2 nominated for best RPG?

Why wasn't Medieval 2 nominated for best Strategy?

Why wasn't Battlefield 2142 nominated for best Online?

These guys left out quite many major titles coming out this year. Not very professional.

360 is getting Splinter Cell: Double Agent early

PS3 getting Assassin's Creed early.

You can bet your ass the other system is getting each one.

Crysis videos, low-res, blurry and overall of shit quality were still FUCK AWESOME, better than anything else I've ever seen.

GRAW? Oblivion? Gears? MGS:4? Bwahwahwahwah...

Get that s**t out of here - Crysis has non-scripted, physics based destruction of trees AND buildings. This is will be the true so called "next-gen" - Geo-Mod taken to the next level.

A guy is sniping you from a distant building? Loba a few grenades or launch two rockets there to bring the whole building DOWN ON HIS CAMPING ASS.

If you don't believe me, and I'm pretty sure jaded console-only fans don't, check some videos. Not the one with that big spider-like boss but the jungle off-screen ones.

Mindblowing, I hope it's not Vista only.

Why wasn't NWN2 nominated for best RPG?

PC gaming is dead - didn't you get the memo?

I hope they don't have any 'hanging item' issues. It was sad to blow all of the rock away from around a doorframe in a geo-mod game, just to watch the doorframe float in midair.

MSG4? Meh, a 15 minute long Kojima wank fest.

That's the perfect fucking trailer right there, completely drug induced, makes no sense whatsoever and doesn't go for 20 years.

Most of the stuff running at E3 were wii devkits. But as i understand it, atleast EA and ubisoft only had two weeks prior to E3 to port it from the GC devkits to the wii devkit.

Assassin's Creed is this year's Killzone 2. I mean everybody is getting caught up in the video that's not showing any actual gameplay. Alot of folks showed 3D trailers. It should be nominated for anything but best trailer.

No no, I think he may actually be. Let me spell it out for him:

There were multiple instances at E3 where the Wii's were running in gamecube casings. This means, they took the new hardware, and put it in a small cube case. The case doesn't mean it's a gamecube.

Nintendo has come out and said this. It's been posted over the internet yesterday about how Nintendo was running Wii hardware in the gamecube case. The dev kits have been running with Wii hardware in gamecube cases for awhile now, it's not something that's been kept secret.

Note to Mike Jones, we don't like trolls here. Being a fanyboy is great and all, and this site is filled with them, just don't troll.

Since that was primarily self-inflicted, does that mean he's plotting revenge on himself? That really IS pathetic.

The game was perfectly playable - behind closed doors. You'll understand why journalists are going crazy over that game when gameplay footage is released.

I would agree that the Smash Brothers' trailer was way better than the mgs4 trailer. The Smash Brothers' trailer is one of the best trailers for a game that I've ever seen. It has humour, cool effects, introduces some characters to the game, and shows off some gameplay.

You know I am jazzed about Smash Brothers, SB GC owned me while I was Recouping from a Motorcycle accident a couple years back, and it was the first Video game my Little Girl (then around Two) Noticed. The Wii all in all will be a Insta-purchase for me. That is confidence in a brand.

cruddy00 posted:

ok thats cool I understand. do you think you could give any tidbits on Revolution games in this thread (of course I'm not trying to get you to break any NDAs or anything, but some rumors would be nice).

i understand this is on the 360 board so I'm not going to ask anymore after this for anything else on third party games, but we're all starving for anything at all on the Revolution board.

for example you talked about EA sports games, have you heard anything on whether or not the Revolution versions suck or if EA is actually trying to make them unique for Revolution (unlike those terrible DS efforts)?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately I don't know too much about the Revolution except for the 3 games I've seen... two of which I'm working on. None of the games are graphically impressing me because the GameCube dev kits are still being used for now.

Can't wait to see some of the sports games with the new controller... but the one thing I have heard from two developers is that their arms & wrists start to get tired after playing for about a half an hour. Although that might be because the games are tweaked yet?

You know the system is more powerfull. So, a couple of launch titles look like last gen bits. The same thing happens in every console launch ever.

The trailer for Halo 2 was spectular, and it had no gameplay, and all that was was him opening an airlock. A lot more happened in this trailer.

Frankly the music alone was better than everything at E3 in terms of Trailers.

"As an answer to whoever asked: Crysis uses DirectX10 so it's Vista only."

No.
It will run fine on WinXP. They said it several times.
It would be completely stupid to sell it only on Vista. When a new OS comes along, it takes a while before people switch over. People are still running Win98! And Vista is introducing ALOT of new demanding features (plus DRM etc.), so it will take some time before Vista is mainstream. Making it Vista only (and doing it on Vista launchday) will result in much fewer games sold. This will only happen if MS drops alot of cash for the exclusive and Crytek wants to do it (which I doubt).
