StrategyInformer (http://www.strategyinformer.com/) has word that Capcom plans to release a Platinum version of Resident Evil 4 for the PS2 this year on October 13th. This means the title should sell for around £20 ($20) allowing more people to afford it.
Cool beans!

I'm pretty sure the Gamecube version has already fallen to that price...

The title's already that price second hand anyway

Sounds good to me. I still want to play the PS2 version to see how it compares, and to play the new content. I've been waiting for the price to drop, and $20 is about right. I haven't bought it used because I'd prefer to give the developer some of my money since they did such an amazing job with RE4.

No GCN love?

It's already a Player's choice on GCN, isn't it? Go buy it if you don't own it! :)

The GCN version's been a $20 Players' Choice for some time. But, at the same price, I suggest getting the PS2 version. It looks a little worse, but the added Ada missions and true widescreen make it the better package.

True widescreen?! I didn't know that. My projector runs natively in widescreen. Now I'll definitely have to take a look.

I didn't have any problem running the GameCube version on my widescreen projector.
I wonder why, with the new consoles launching this fall, Capcom would release a PS2 game. Do they not expect people to be able to get their hands on a PS3 and pick up Resident Evil unstead?
Seems like an odd move, kind of like God of War being a PS2 game instead of being moved to PS3 development months and months ago.

The GC version only runs in 4:3, with black bars on the top and bottom. If you made it fill your widescreen monitor, you were zooming, and getting maybe 300 lines of vertical resolution. The PS2 version has an actual widescreen mode. No bars, full 640x480p.

Crap game, crap graphics, crap controls. Not worth the money.
Resident evil 4 is poo poo.
Only kidding :p

Ahh
I didn't notice. The title looks fantastic.

How do they determine whether or not a game has reached "platinum" status? It seems like it only came out about six months ago (for PS2).

I think it's based on sales.

Because it'll be a long, long time before the PS3 has the installed base of the PS2. The installed base is the whole reason they ported the game to the PS2 in the first place.

I'm not happy with the direct $20 to £20 equivalency.

$20 and £20?
god I hate exchange rates, $20 is like *does some calculations* about £10! Now that would be good value!

No, that is not 4:3, you would have black bars on the sides, not top and bottem. The Cube version is more like anomorphic widescreen 2.40:1 , which in my book was perfectly fine. Of course if you have a small TV I could see where you would bitch about it.

Yes, it is. The SIGNAL is 4:3, but they add those bars to make the visible area 16:9. It's letterboxed widescreen, not anamorphic widescreen. The PS2 version is anamorphic.

Well in the UK Resident Evil 4 currently cost's about £35 I think, this plat award takes it down to £20. I'm not sure what this is for the USA.

Fuck man, if this version even has an extra ammo drop I'll probably pick it up, I'm such a slut for this game.

I stand corrected, I just fired it up to take a look and it looks like I played it with my TV set to wide mode, which by the way did look perfectly fine.

Played RE4 on PS2 last night. Terrible game controller-wise.So many buttons, yet they hardly did anything. Not allowing someone to strafe, etc. not only feels stupid, but makes it hard.
I also couldn't find where to change the controller inversion.
I played the demo on a gamecube a long time ago, and it was much easier to play. I think it was still limited in the same way, though.

Pause during gameplay and go to options. Should find your inversion in there.
That game was designed for the gamecube controller and that bigass A button. It was smooth on that system.

This is stupid. If you want to tri-dip a game, why not go to the only other console the game isn't on?

I'm definitely picking this up when the cheap-o version comes out. I was concerned about the controls myself, but my local Game Stop had it in the PS2 kiosk the other day and I got to check it out. The controls aren't optimal, but I've played much, much worse, and it's awesome compared to the old Resident Evil control scheme. I can finally play the series and not hate every second of game time! It's non-sucky Resident Evil! Never thought I'd see the day.

Anyone know if Capcom will ever re-release RE4 for GC, but with the extra content they added in the PS2 version? I know the players-choice version doesn't have it. I just liked the GC controller for this game more, for some reason.
JamieSI

I don't think Capcom will do that, since that content is PS2 exclusive?

I hate how the ammo drop rate in the PS2 version has been reduced quite significantly.

ive been chipping my way through RE4 for some time now.. about 20 hours in. great stuff..
i do wish it would fill my dlp's screen though.. and component would be nice since the svideo is a bit muddy, but i aint paying ebay prices for the ninty component (like70-80$)

Pretty sure it isn't, it was just their way of sweetening the deal for those who waited all that time for their version. The PC version apparently has the same content, nothing new sadly.

LOL amateur.
I ended up discarding a lot of ammo during my first run through on PS2. I couldn't fathom more ammo drops in the game - I've played the GC version about 1/2 way through, but the PS2 version clearly has the better game mechanics/balances.
Besides, this is a survival horror game, not freakn Super Mario!!!

Just wait. I hear Wii will play your old GameCube games using component cables.

its too bad capcom's not releasing a version on the gamecube with the Ada missions. Gamecube already has the superior version, but that would make it perfect.
