One word: WOW.
VU would be dead - dead - dead, if it weren't for Blizzard.
You've got Vivendi and Blizzard and Take2 and Rockstar. Makes me wonder how many other companies are like this... one-hit wonders, where the one-hit is so big it sustains the rest of the company.

Take2 is much bigger than Rockstar. They own Firaxis, (Civ 4) Visual Concepts, (ESPN Sports) and now Irrational. (Bioshock) Did Rockstar and GTA Make them who they are today? Definatelly. But I would not call them a one-hit wonder.

Square definetly comes to mind. Hell, you might as well put Nippon Ichi on the list. Id? Valve?

Valve has only made two games so they dont count.
And Rockstar's Midnight Club 3 sold pretty good last year if I remember correctly.

Yes the US should tax a French company. I agree.

Are you serious? Vivendi is a very large company and would be just fine without Blizzard.

I'm holding out for the Platinum Hits edition with Bioshock and Diablo 3 on the same disc. So sweet.

Blizzard is no one-hit wonder. They make gold in the form of compact discs. Look at their three (as they call them) "universes" they have created. Just one of those IPs is worth more than most entire game studios. Blizzard is one of the slew of few highly successful U.S. game studios. And I am not talking about just successful in the US as a US studio... I mean world wide acclaim.

I'd give anything for a new StarCraft game. And yes, I mean anything.

I'm curious how much money WoW really brings in. Would be interesting to see gross/net profits from that one game alone.

and I wouldn't call WoW a one-hit-wonder. All Blizzard games have been triple-A, IMO.

You can tax them on their U.S. earnings/sales, for sure, and tariffs are applied to all kinds of imported goods...not agreeing that a windfall tax is necessary or even the correct thing to do, but the idea is valid and perfectly legal...and the French tax the he@# out of foreign companies operating in France as well.
