TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com) is reporting that Xbox 360 smash hit launch title, Call of Duty 2, is scheduled to hit stores in the very near future (if it's not already there).

You can read the full story here (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10967/Activision-Releases-Call-of-Duty-2-GotY-Edition/).

Providing fans of the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft with access to fresh, new content and behind-the-scenes access to the # 1 Xbox 360 launch title, Activision, Inc. , today announced the release of Call of Duty 2: Game of the Year.

In addition to Infinity Ward’s original Call of Duty 2 game, the special retail edition will also include a token that can be redeemed for the recently released Call of Duty 2: Skirmish Map Pack, two new multiplayer maps (a 400 Microsoft™ Point value) currently available through Xbox Live Marketplace. Call of Duty 2: Game of the Year will also include a bonus DVD containing “making of” footage, historic interviews and commentaries and mission walkthroughs from the developers at Infinity Ward.

“With the Call of Duty 2: Game of the Year special edition, we’re providing Xbox 360 gamers access to more great content,” said Dusty Welch, vice president of global brand management, Activision, Inc. “With a bonus DVD and access to new multiplayer maps, the Game of the Year edition delivers the most intense Call of Duty 2 experience to date, all in one package.”
Can't see the immediate appeal of this release.

Or on the bonus disk, a la the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack.

I didn't even want the first version. Is the 360 version better than PC, or something?

The only thing worse than all the carbon copy WW2 shooters out are WW2 shooters repackaged to be updated versions of the WW2 shooters we already have. Seriously, can we have another world war so the devs will have something new to exploit?

The single-player is fun. The multiplayer is shit... If you buy both PD0, and CD2, you'll have a complete FPS. I don't like saying that about my current favorite console, but it's the truth.

Then again, I love PD0's maps, so I'm glad to have it around for nothing but the multiplayer... It's a lot better than the crap-fest maps they gave us in Halo 2.

I've been fulfilled with GRAW, as far as shooting people goes.

To make people go to the Marketplace and check it out?
While they're redeeming their free shit, they'll see all the other MS Totally Awesome Content (tm).

Now lets be fair here. Call of Duty 2 is not just a carbon copy WWII game. The Call of Duty games are the BEST WWII games. Hands down. If you have to knock the genre, pick Medal of Honor.

This is out already. I saw it at Wal-Mart today. It has a sticker on the front saying that you get the new maps and stuff. I don't remember seeing it say you get a token to redeem...strange.

I agree that CoD is the premier WWII series out there. However, I don't see the need for the GOTY edition. Nothing really new or spectacular. The making of stuff is neato and I might pick it up once it drops several dozen dollars.

Except Infinity Ward are the original MOHAA devs. Have they even done anything else since then? I can't seem to think of anything.

This doesn't sound like the thread for you!

Simple: it is intended to give a burst of sales before they have to drop the price. Microsoft hasn't announced their Platinum Hits program yet, but as soon as those launch titles need it, they will. This is just a stall to keep it selling at $60.

This crap pisses me off about gaming developers/publishers. Quit screwing over the early adopters/purchasers by releasing improved or updated versions of your game months later. Fable did it with Fable: Lost Chapters for $20, Ninja Gaiden did it with Ninja Gaiden Black for $30, and Morrowind did it with Morrowind:Game of the Year Edition (all of which I bought LATE, which made me feel smart and satisfied). All were improved versions and all have persuaded me that I'd have to be a dumb@ss to spend $50 or $60 on a game when it will come out cheaper and better six months to a year later. CoD2 is a great game...I just hate this crap.

Since when was Call of Duty 2 the game of the year?

CoD2 was cool. GOTY? Was it that slow of a year? I'm honestly tired of the World War theme. Something new please.

I think it's sad this game even has a 'game of the year' edition.

First: You posted the same thing in the new Oblivion plugin thread
second: You are wrong.

regarding CoD2:GotY - Yeah, it's silly, considering it wasn't even close to being the game of the year. it was nice, but it had little improvement over the first game, other than prettier graphics. I felt like I was playing the russian campaign in CoD1 all over again. The new extras are nothing exciting, and most making off videos I got lately are pretty lame (C&C 1st Decade, Oblivion, Godfather...)

I do like especial editions and extra, though. Devs must stop working on the game and release it... they have the tendency to keep doing new stuff and adding things forever. Then, after they release the game, they make even more stuff... And we get in plugins and expansions and especial editions.

But you know what really pisses me off?
new ipod models are released every fucking month and the cattle, ops, the people buy it all over again. Souns systems, tvs, dvd players and home theaters get new models every fucking month, and everyone claps their little sheep hooves.

but WOE is the game related company that makes new stuff... Nintendo sucks because they make new versions of the GBA and DS, they're such a bunch of bloodsucking capitalist leeches... Bethesda sucks because the make Morrowind GoTY and plugins... so on, so forth.

Damn, people are whiny little bitches.

Actually, I think that is a prerequisite to post here on EA. Isn't it a check box in the registration now?

Actually CoD2 did get several GoTY edition rankings in a number of magazines. Thats all it takes to be consider GoTY material. Look back in time, there are a number of GOTY games all from the same year...

That said, whats ironic about this is its from a year that started in Late November, so actually this should be called Game of December edition. I do wish their was a greatest hits cheapo edition of games being released right about now though. At 19.99 or 29.99 I would finally pick up Kameo.

First: You posted the same thing in the new Oblivion plugin thread
second: You are wrong.

First: The two issues are related, so my opinions are related.
Second: Opinions are not wrong; they are opinions. Facts can of course be wrong, but forums are rarely filled with facts.
Third: WTF do you care anyway. If my opinion bothers you, skip it, forget it, whatever you want to do...it is indeed a wonderful, free country (whether the U.S. or Brazil).

Perhaps whining about that is an irony in itself, as well?

That, my friend, was MANLY complaining! not some bitching whining! ;)
and the point of democracy and freedom is not just saying what you wanna say (i.e. the whinning), but dealing with the OTHER, divergent opinions.
Ok, so "wrong" was actually the wrong word, but I call it bullshit. There is no logic in bitching about how the evil publishers and developers make better editions of the games later! At best, you're being spoiled and/or silly. I WISH all my favorite games had enhanced versions and expansion packs.

Take a breath and chill out...as I said, opinion is opinion is opinion, and forums are full of opinions, many of them offensive (as mine is apparently to you). I can deal with your crying, but I don't need to make it personal (I won't even remember it in fifteen minutes or so) and hopefully you can figure out a way to deal with it and move on in life. Enjoy your enhanced games, and I will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing I payed $20 or less for virtually all of my extensive library, many of which end up being the 'enhanced version;' I'll let the people who are being ripped off fight the rest of this good fight, since it's not me who's paying $50 and up for titles. Flame on!
