STOCKHOLM - October 21, 2010 - Paradox Interactive announced today the signing of a significant publishing deal with Hungarian developer Neocore. The deal includes previously released titles as well as several unannounced future projects. Paradox Interactive and Neocore first joined forces on the recently released tactical wargame Lionheart - Kings’ Crusade. This new deal accomplishes the objective of extending this fruitful relationship for many years to come

We are looking forward to sharing our passion and their talent with our closest partners and selected media in what will be the biggest and greatest Paradox Convention to date. Therefore, we knew there was only one place that could accommodate the event this time round – ‘The Big Apple’!”

The announced titles in the line-up include:

Magicka

Cities in Motion

Pride of Nations

Magna Mundi

Sword of the Stars II

Supreme Ruler: Cold War

Crusader Kings II

The artist formerly known as Richard The Lionheart changes name for 2011. “Just call me King!”

NEW YORK – 7th January 2011 – A new year has arrived and with it comes a New Year resolution as Richard The Lionheart, the leading historical figure in last year’s immersive real-time strategy game Lionheart: Kings’ Crusade, has undergone a name change. Explaining his decision, the legendary warrior said, “I just felt ‘Richard The Lionheart’ was a bit of a mouthful. I felt I wanted something a little snappier when the little people were addressing me. Therefore, from now on I shall be addressed simply as ‘King’. It’s short, easy to remember, and sums me up perfectly!”

Consequently, publisher Paradox Interactive has now changed the name of the game from Lionheart: Kings’ Crusade to The Kings’ Crusade by royal decree!

In addition to a brand new name, two forthcoming expansions are set to release in early 2011.
The first, Arabian Nights, will arrive on February 8th and will focus on the Saracen forces.
The second expansion, Teutonic Knights, is a Crusaders add-on with a to-be-confirmed release date.

Magicka is so much fun, and so frustratingly hard at the same time. We played through four levels of co-op last night, had a blast. Combining spells on the go to account for the shields monsters start coming out with is pretty dang difficult.

Paradox Outlines Initial Line-up of 2011 Free-to-Play Online Games

Three New Paradox Connect Titles Announced at Paradox Convention 2011

NEW YORK – January 26, 2011 – Paradox Interactive today announced three new free-to-play online games that will launch on the Paradox Connect platform in 2011. The titles, Salem , Gettysburg: Armored Warfare, and Hearts of Iron: The Card Game were revealed late last week in New York City at the annual Paradox Convention. The three new games complement the previously announced Paradox Connect title in development: Dreamlords: Resurrection.

"The reaction of the media to the Paradox Connect line-up has confirmed that we’re on track with our strategy of creating and publishing games that appeal to the core gaming audience,” said Tom Söderlund, Project Lead for Paradox Connect. “By embracing games that take risks like permadeath in Salem and free collectibles in our online trading card games, we’re sure that Paradox is bringing something exciting and new to online gaming in 2011 and beyond.“

The announced 2011 Paradox Connect line-up includes:

Salem – A free-to-play crafting MMORPG title set in a mythical version of New England.
Gettysburg: Armored Warfare – A free-to-play FPS/ RTS hybrid. The game is set during an alternate version of the Civil War and includes tanks, zeppelins, a wide variety of firearms and much more.
Hearts of Iron: The Card Game – A browser-based, free-to-play digital collectable card game based on the Hearts of Iron franchise.
Dreamlords: Resurrection – A free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online Real-Time Strategy (MMORTS) game. Players can get into the beta now by following Dreamlords online at: http://www.facebook.com/Dreamlordsgame

The Paradox Convention is held annually in January and offers press and partners the opportunity to preview the publisher’s upcoming projects. The next major event on Paradox’s agenda is GDC 2011 in San Francisco.

NEW YORK – February 10, 2011 – Paradox Interactive today officially announced Salem, a free-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game based in the harsh world of colonial Salem. The game focuses on crafting and player colonies as players discover the new world in a sandbox like environment. The game is being developed by the team at Seatribe and is scheduled to go live in 2011 on the Paradox Connect platform.

Salem has already garnered a lot of interest from the gaming community since it was previewed behind closed doors to members of the media in late January. Known for its controversial permanent death feature, an essential game mechanic that introduces risk as players progress in the new world, Salem is a fresh twist on the MMO genre giving players control of their towns in the game and introducing frontier justice in the open Player-versus-Player (PvP) environment.

"Salem is a free-to-play MMO game that is going to add something new to the genre with the concept of generations rather than just a single character through the game,” said Tom Söderlund, Project Lead for Paradox Connect. “If your character is killed in the game, and believe me it can be dangerous in Salem, their descendent has the ability to pick up where your character left off. The concept of revenge and towns policing themselves and even sanctioning hits on griefers is going to be a really compelling aspect. We know we’ll see some interesting things when the community finally has a chance to play Salem later this year.”

About Salem
Set in a fantastical New England, Salem offers free form Massively Multiplayer gameplay in a persistent, ever-changing, online world. Players take the roles of intrepid colonists from the Old World seeking to make lives for themselves in the New. The colonists are able to use a unique crafting, farming and building system inspired by 17th century alchemy.

Although Salem takes place in a light-hearted gothic setting with a charming and cute art-style, there is also open Player-versus-Player combat and permanent death. Players will also experience creatures based off actual colonist folklore like Squonks, Hidebehinds and of course witches in an open sand box world.

Features:

Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game
Persistent and mutable world
Crafting, farming and building
Open PvP combat with permanent death
Free-to-play

Naval War: Arctic Circle – Developer Diary #1 (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?523254-Naval-War-Arctic-Circle-–-Developer-Diary-1)

We are currently doing a complete redesign of our first user interface. We know that the main map is going to be the default play interface no matter what, given the nature of the game, so we are concentrating on making it beautiful, practical, and informative, though not necessarily in that order. “But,” I hear you say, “we want to watch things being blown up!” No worries. Things will be blown up in spectacular, colourful 3D. You (and we!) just have to wait and see.

Second, there is realism. A major draw of Naval War is the fact that you will play with real ships, submarines, and aircraft. Naturally, this means we have to research and implement the cruise speed of the yet-unfinished F-35 fighter, the number of CIWS Gatling guns on a Kirov class battlecruiser (lots!), the range of the Raduga KH-22M 'AS-4 Kitchen' missile, and the detection ranges of the MGK-540 Flank Array Sonar (we can only guess).More here (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?523254-Naval-War-Arctic-Circle-–-Developer-Diary-1).

Hearts of Iron 3 DLC 'Dies Irae: Götterdämmerung' Developer Diary #4 (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?535318-Hearts-of-Iron-3-DLC-Dies-Irae-G%C3%B6tterd%C3%A4mmerung-Developer-Diary-4&)

As an example of the War of the Atlantic events, when war against England begins, you are informed about the advantage of sending u-boats to the Western Approaches near England, where most convoys historically, and in game, hit a bottleneck. When you conquer the French Atlantic coast harbours, you get an event proposing you to build U-Boats pens in several ports in order to protect your submarines against Allies raids. This will to a larger extent immerse the gamer in the choices faced by Germany in WW2, and make the Atlantic interesting. Also, the whole u-boat development programme will historically follow this development (like the schnorkel design being discovered in Holland after it is conquered).

Stockholm – July 21th, 2011 – Paradox Interactive revealed today that former Rock, Paper, Shotgun journalist Quintin Smith has joined the global PC publisher. Quintin will work in the marketing team as the Creative Marketing Commissar, while continuing to pursue his freelance writing career part time.

“We’ve often joked that if Paradox were a media site we’d aspire to be like Rock, Paper, Shotgun as they combine a passion for the PC platform with incredibly intelligent, witty and sometimes scrutinizing articles of the industry," said Susana Meza Graham, EVP of Publishing at Paradox Interactive.
"We’ve been big fans of Quintin’s work for a long time and when he left RPS we immediately made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. It also helped that Quintin appears to think that Stockholm is in California. In any case, he’ll be an amazing addition to what I dare say is one of the strongest publishing teams in the industry today."

Quintin will share his time between London and Stockholm and work on the entire product portfolio. Some of his most appreciated work can be found in this farewell column http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/04/announcing-quindependence-day/

"I had a tremendous time interacting with Paradox as a journalist, so when they asked if I'd like to start working for them while continuing to work on projects of my own, it was an easy decision. This represents an opportunity for me to work even more closely with people I respect and games that I love. I originally wrote in that last sentence that this represents an opportunity for me to get even more involved with people I respect, but that sounds a bit suggestive. I'm glad I changed it."

"You don't turn down a job in California," Quintin added.

King Arthur II – Features in Detail - Part 1 (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?573710-Part-1-Campaign-Map-amp-Management)

King Arthur II is a Role-playing Wargame, or, in other words, a unique blend of RPGs and strategy games. The gameplay on the Campaign Map is turn-based while the battles are huge real-time assaults, where players issue orders to their units in the heat of the moment.

You’ll see plenty of RPG elements as well, such Quests, also known as Knightly adventures, detailed character development, artifacts, and much more.

King Arthur II is also a fantasy game, with magic playing a crucial part in your adventure. Only through use of both arcane powers and tactical wits will players earn their place on the throne of a huge and mysterious land, ancient Britannia.

King Arthur II – In-depth feature, Part 2 - Your Quests and Objectives (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?575302-King-Arthur-II-%96-In-depth-feature-Part-2-Your-Quests-and-Objectives)

In the role of King Arthur, the Once and Future King, you are to determine the fate of Britannia.
In order to expand your authority over the various provinces you'll be ordering your heroes to conquer lands, explore beyond your empire's borders and accomplish Knightly quests.

During your campaign you'll make plenty of important decisions that have a huge impact on the unfolding story of King Arthur II. Not only that, the decisions you make on Knightly quests will affect your Morality and Faith, and even your realm itself. You can be a Righteous and Christian king, but it's also entirely possible to change the whole Arthurian myth by following the Old Ways and worshipping the Ancient Gods, or even by becoming a ruthless monarch. Changes to your Morality and Faith will unlock unique Units and Spells on the Morality Chart as well as changing future decisions you'll have to face later.

The main goal of King Arthur II is to protect your people from various threats from the North, conquer new lands till you gain control over all Britannia, and restore the peace that was lost when King Arthur suffered a magical wound that never heals, the Holy Grail was shattered and the Fomorians invaded your former kingdom. You'll achieve all these goals if you complete the game's Objectives, which together paint a grandiose portrait of an epic struggle.

The most important Objectives involve several steps as you send your knights on various Knightly adventures, or as we call them: Quests. These adventures are the essence of King Arthur’s world, crossroads where the storyline branches and you can make decisions that change Britannia's fate. You might also find the game's most powerful artifacts in these quests.

Quests are written adventures, similar to old Choose your Own Adventure books. In King Arthur II there are three different types of quests: Battle quests, where you fight against an enemy army, Diplomacy quests that outline political situations and see you choosing one of several means of solving a problem, and Adventure quests where you meet new heroes, solve important problems, save damsels, place bets in arena fights and everything in between.

Once again, Britannia needs you. Prepare yourself for its biggest adventure yet!
