Confirmed by multiple friends and it's happened to me once now.

You would think these things wouldn't make it out of QA to live on an engine that's over a decade old.

Update:

Almost every time Ive tested the missing auto/quicksave bug, Ive discovered the save is not actually gone and your hours of work were not in vain.

Go to C:\Users\"User Name"\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves

Here you will see your auto/quick saves and any hard saves. Now if your one of the lucky ones, you should see 2 auto-saves and 2 quick-saves. And THATS RIGHT! One of these is all your hard work. The ones ending in .bak are your correct ones. Simply rename it and delete the .bak. Feel free to delete the other 2 ones that have so frustratingly overwritten your hours of play, giving you a mini-heart attack. After deleting the .bak, you should discover your correct auto/quick saves in the load screen, safely able to continue playing from your original position.

Hope I got to people on time before they auto/quick saved again. Good Luck out there guys!

EDIT: I did put almost btw. About 10% of the time, the file was not actually saved. Sorry bout the guys who lost their work =/
Also, if you auto/quick saved again AFTER originally losing your auto/quick save, you have made a NEW original, and your .bak will be what you just auto/quick saved. So this is a rescue attempt at people who have yet to begin playing all over again, not those who tried again and ultimately wrote over their original progress.

Also the lag issues seem to be from the game only using about 30% or less of your system to simulate how "older" cards could handle the game leaving it all but unplayable for people on anything 2008 and less.

OMFG this shit happened to me twice. I played for around six hours and quit, when I came back I was at a 4-hour earlier save. I restarted the game, quit after an hour, and it put me back at the same save as before. I'm also getting the terrible lag.

So...this is truly just like every other fallout game then? :D PC gaming ftw.

Someone found a way to fix the performance problem
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1123460-potential-fix-for-npc-slowdown/

Everyone in that topic is saying it worked. I tried it myself and Goodsprings seemed to be a lot smoother.

There's also a way to recover your (second-most-recent) autosaves and quicksaves: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/248832-crash-and-lost-saves/page__view__findpost__p__2222119

Honestly, I'm pretty sure the "almost a decade old" thing is the root cause of the save problem, at least. Their save system can't even handle multiple characters, and they're trying to shoehorn cloud syncing? Yeah, good luck with that. I don't know if the QA team somehow completely missed this issue or if somebody made the decision to ignore it and release anyway, but whoever is responsible needs to go before a firing squad.

It's long since been fixed. Now they need to fix the ant nectar bug.

What mods are you guys using, if any? I'm using:

Eyelashes New Vegas - makes the faces look a little better
Immersive Karma - no more annoying sounds or popups when you steal things
Night and Day - time pass more slowly, adds weather effects and darker nights
Better Forest - improves the visuals of the forested area around Jacobstown
Realistic Death and Dismemberment Physics - self explanatory
MTUI - a better UI until Darnified for New Vegas is finished.
