While unfortunately, Mario Galaxy will not end up being a launch title (I don't think any of us expected it to be), Miyamoto has gone on record as saying it will be close at hand:

"[Galaxy] is progressing along quite well, but it's often said that when I get involved in a project I upend the tea table. I don't want to promise anything yet. But if it's not a launch title it will definitely be there within the first six months,

Miyamoto went on to confirm multiplayer modes. A two player game is a definite, but he stated that he was toying with the idea of having 3 or 4 players involved:

Miyamoto said that he was experimenting with ways to use the Wii-motes so that[ one player could control Mario and as many as three others could also operate some functionality with separate Wii-motes. Miyamoto indicated that he hadn't finalized what type of operations the second, third and fourth players might have, but suggested that they might be able to input something that would interfere with Mario's progress.

While it looks like we will have to wait a bit for Mario goodness, at least we won't be stuck with just Luigi's Mansion again!

Multiplayer? Ooooooh!

I'm willing to wait a bit for it to be good, at least I'll still have Zelda and Metroid 3 amongst other titles.

Galaxies looked awesome in that video; with Miyamoto in charge, you know it won't be anything less than superb when it's released. The man is simply incapable of failure when it comes to designing games.

While I personally enjoyed Sunshine, I do understand why a lot of people were disappointed. Squirt gun? Meh... it reminded of how they shoehorned the Mario characters into Doki Doki Panic back in SMB2. Fun, but not exactly representative of that classic Mario experience. (Not that there was anything WRONG with SMB2.)

I was one of those who could never really get into Sunshine. The controls were just too instrusive... and the camera problems... oy.

The funny thing is, Sunshine would probably work perfectly with the Wii-mote.

Although a Wii Luigi's Mansion would be even better. (I personally loved that game... I just wish it were longer.)

This is going to be the best console launch ever.

This is going to be the best console launch ever.

If it launched with Galaxies in addition to 20 or so other titles (probably half of which would be first party), then no doubt I would probably agree. However, without Galaxies, it may or may not be an excellent launch; we'll just have to wait to see what's there when it comes out.

Still, hard to argue with 25+ playable games on the show floor. =)

I think we will have enough great games at launch. By the time we play all the launch games or get bored with them, we will have Mario, then hopefully, soon after that, we will have SSBB. I love you Nintendo *hug*

Course, at anytime you get bored, boot up some VC!!

He didn't say it wouldn't be a launch title, he said IF it's not a launch title.

Yup, sounds to me like it's no decided yet.

I have to say, I'm quite impressed with Nintendo's line up thus far.

I'll believe a Nintendo launch date when the game goes gold.

Nintendo said it'll launch no later than November (US Thanksgiving).

Honestly I'm surprised by how impressive Super Mario Galaxy looks.

After Sunshine my expectations were fairly low. Sunshine was okay, but it was too hard and most of the levels too similar to one another.

In fact in the few short clips I've seen I think there's more variety in the Super Mario Galaxy demo than there was in all of Sunshine.

Me and my sisters (one younger, one older) are playing Mario Sunshine currently.

It is damned hard at some points. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what the hell to do.. the rest of the time is spent doing it. I spent 45 minutes trying to unlock a shine sprite, then I had to spend another 30 minutes trying to GET that shine sprite.

Sunshine was underwhelming. Id rather they take as long as they need with Mario than to ship a half-assed game. Itll just ruin the promised genius. Id rather witness a good game at the same time Im learning a new/blended genre than to witness one then the other in a later sequal.
