From IGN: New Super Smash Brawl for Wii! (http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707504p1.html)

Details are just now rolling in, but we have confirmed the following playable characters:

Pit (Kid Icarus)
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
Zero Suit Samus (Metroid)
Meta-Knight (Kirby)

Check out some video as well! (http://media.revolution.ign.com/media/748/748545/vids_1.html)

Thanks Kamalot and Food Nipple for similar submission.

Everyone's missing the most important part because they're too excited about Snake.

SMASH BRAWL USES REGULAR CONTROLS.

No motion sensing, no wiggling left or right to attack. Straight up gamepad.

This leads me to two conclusions-

1. Smash Brawl won't suck. The game just wouldn't work with a mouse (gyroscopic or not. Cue the nintendo faithful spinning how it will revolutionize every gametype EXCEPT fighters.)

2. the "classic" gamepad will be standard with the system.

Solid Snake? That is awesome. I mean, I'm not a fan of MGS, I think. (I own all 3 games, but haven't played them yet) But, people who like Snake will buy a Wii for it. I mean, the Wii and Smash Brawl will still only be half the price of the PS3. :D

(I had too)

I love me some more Smash. Looking forward to this. I wonder how many more suprises Nintendo will have?

Phew, I heard it would be announced, but I was getting worried. I hope Snake uses a cardboard box.

The most awesome thing is this:

The game also features a range of new nasty toys, such as the ability to unleash puppies from Nintendogs that will run up to the screen and put its paws on it and obscure the view of the action.

Any game with both Solid Snake and Nintendogs is awesome.

I believe the phrasing of the announcement was that the game would be "fully compatible" with gamecube controllers; I take that to mean that wiimote controls will probably be offered, but the classic controller seems like it has to be the superior method of control.

All I care is that it's still coming. They didn't even mention smash bros at the conference, whereas last year they said it would be a launch title and that they already were playing matches against each other. I was so worried they canceled it.

Yes I just read that on mIRC a moment ago..
OMG... I'M STARTING TO C...U...M.......ERMM I MEAN FEELING GREAT, right now I'm so hyped about this that I'm going to start playing tommorrow Smash Brother Melee again.
I'm really hoping that they don't create clones of charqacters just like they did in SBM ;) .

BTW you can read a more complete article of what happend when they show Super Smash Brawl to the journalist..at Gamespot: clicking here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6150506.html)

Strangely, it really seems like Nintendo has too much good stuff coming. I don't think they could have focused on all of it at their press conference. Lately they have been having the opposite problem, so it's really nice to see the flood of software for the Wii. It's off to an excellent start.

New info: Online play, but delayed until 2007. And for the guy that asked, yes Snake appearently does have the cardboard box.

I don't know that you can assume either of those. The motion control isn't an "all or nothing" thing. It can be implemented in subtle ways. But mainly, your second conclusion seems very skeptical. Just because it doesn't use the motion capabilities, doesn't mean you can't still use the nunchuck and remote control. It would still work fine.

Here is my prophesy for today-....I see the color blue...

*goes into trance

That blue lady-fox, Krystal, from the last two Star Fox games will be unlockable. And...Sonic will finially be able to duke it with Mario. Mega...man....

*Wakes up

and oh yeah - this is the Solid Snake version you'll be getting-

It does use the motion control, too. The early reports were mistaken.

I'm sure it will use the nunchuck, and you'll move your guy with that, and then attack by flicking the remote. I'm also sure that everyone will try that for 5 minutes, and then go back to playing it the way it's meant to be played.

But you're right, since Wiimote control is in there, I'm now not so sure that the pad will be packed in.

*sheds another tear* Wii Smash, playable Pit, AND online...?

Once again, like others have said before me, Nintendo's managed to make me feel like an excited 12 year old again. I haven't been this giddy in, oh, FOREVER.

Not only will I now be able to Smash with my buds across the country, I can now introduce my fiance to the wonder that is Smash. Especially since Capcom vs. SNK is forbidden in our house due to someone's cheap skills with Vega.

If Nintendo doesn't stop with this deluge of awesomeness I think my little gamer heart will explode...not that I actually want them to stop that is. :D

I don't understand the antagonism against motion control in this one. Use the nunchaku to move the character, jump, charge, and flick the controller to smash -- should be amazing.

Based on the screens, the blue female character is indeed Samus without her armor. One of the screenshots shows a giant explosion causing her suit to crumble; you can see an exposed blue leg.

I don't understand the antagonism against motion control in this one. Use the nunchaku to move the character, jump, charge, and flick the controller to smash -- should be amazing.

The motion just isn't precise enough. Fighting games require extremely quick and precise controls, and the Wii motion sensing isn't going to cut it. In SSBM, you can use the analog stick to jump, but no one does at high levels as it's not precise enough for techniques like wavedashing. If an analog stick isn't responsive enough, motion sensing certainly won't be.

Kotaku's coverage of the announcement mentions that adding Snake was Konami's idea, and "Nintendo says they think the announcement of Snake in the game will open the door for other third-party opportunities."

What non-Nintendo characters do other people want to see? Sonic seems the most obvious. Bomberman would be cool. Both seem plausible since Sega and Hudson are already partnering with Nintendo on the Virtual Console.

Sonic for sure.

Bomberman would be a good one.

For Namco I was thinking either Pacman or someone from Soul Calibur.

Capcom could go many ways. Could get Leon, or Mega Man, or Simon Belmont, or even Dante. I think Mega Man would make the most sense, though he'd probably be pretty similar to Samus in abilities. Simon Belmont could be cool using a whip for his primary weapon.

-Wario will be able to use the fart move in the game.
-the SSB logo is an item in the game that will give you a fatality type move
-the nintendog is an item that will obscure the battlefield (too bad i can't kick the dog around)
-more third party characters are being considered

Characters i want to see in the game:

This came from the official website (http://www.smashbros.com/en/index.html): The main theme was created for us by none other than famed Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu!

Additionally, opera singer Ken Nishikiori has also participated in this project on vocals.

...And as a special service to readers of this site, I can say that the game's music will be performed by a full orchestra.

It will be a deluxe chorus complete with lyrics in Latin.

It's of a slightly different disposition than previous Smash Bros. games, wouldn't you say?

I also want to change the atmosphere of the game itself a little, too. But you'll just have to look forward to how I'll be doing that.

Well what do you know? Sounds lavish.
