Gamespot has the report (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6149847.html) from the Konami conference that just happened. Talks about new stuff from Kojima productions, including MGS Digital Graphic Novel, Metal Gear: Portable Ops for the PSP and the "real" MGS4 trailer.

Man I hope video of this gets up soon. I had thought the MGS4 trailer seemed short for MGS trailer standards.

Here's a funny quote:

These are basically the best real-time graphics I've ever seen. Rivals most CG. I am such a fanboy.

I am truly baffled by the irrational devotion paid to Metal Gear. What the hell is so compelling about blocky mechs with lizard legs, pathetic pint sized rolling robo handy-cams, truly laughable character names with even worse style sensibilities, and a chain smoking suicidal old fart with a mullet?

Yeah but it looks good. Sure you won't understand a lick of the story (even in English) but it looks pretty. I wonder how "good" God of War 2 will look compared to MGS4 ;)
(both of which are going to be released in 2007)

Rationality has nothing to do with it. It's personal preference. You can't help what you enjoy.

Have you ever, you know, PLAYED an MGS game?

Anyway, god, I want to see this video! *yearns to know more*

The graphics in this computer game rival most computer graphics!

I think by "CG" he means in movies and game cutscenes.

I just assumed the "real" video was the same video in HD (the second video, not the one released last year).

If it has nothing to do with either Silent Hill or Suikoden, I really don't care.

No. If you read the article, they say it's got a whole bunch of new footage.

They showed the new Silent Hill for PSP.

MGS was great for it's time...but MGS 2 ruined it for me. I didn't even attempt to play MGS 3. Not only that, for stealth action titles Splinter Cell is now the cream of the crop. IMO it makes MGS look laughable with the crazy audio cues and stupid icons.

DAMN YOU KONAMI!

Now I'm going to have to find the money for a )(@*#$)(*@#$*()@ PSP so I can play the new Silent Hill game.

I'm not sure which audio cues or icons you are refering to, but if you don't get the humor of the exclamation point (!) whenever an enemy finds you, then I guess this game is definitely not for you. I haven't played much of Splinter Cell, but the only things that game seemed to have over MGS was the camera and the graphics. The AI in MGS 2 and 3 always seemed smarter to me, and there isn't one linear path through a given area. Also, being spotted shouldn't be the end of the game if you're a skilled spy.

Compared to most Japanese games, the above stuff is very rational.

I was turned off by MGS2, but I the subsistence version of MGS3 won me back. The new camera angle works great and I can't say there is any one feature that makes it so good. It's greater than the sum of it's parts and the attention to detail really shows through.

The downside is that it's talky at the beginning, but this isn't an issue as you get further into the game.
