I'm a bit unclear as to how the top screen is going to work in the port of Yoshi's island; in the picture shown above, the top screen doesn't seem to match up to the bottom one.

Yoshi's Island 2 is not a port. It is a sequel to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. This is a brand new game and I can't wait.

The posted shots don't take into account the distance between the two screens on the DS; they should be further apart.

Edit: And yeah, as automaton said, it's not a port. And I too am quite exited about it. I can't think of any truly great 2d platform games released since Yoshi's Island; I'm hoping that this and/or New SMB will change that.

In most DS games I've seen, the *system itself* doesn't take into account the distance between the screens, and renders things as if they're right on top of eachother. Look at the Mario Kart swooping camera intros, or the Sonic game.

I think even if Yoshi's Island is different in this respect, the distance isn't large enough to account for the discrepancy. Especially not on the DS Lite.

I don't think it's a mistake, though. We'll just have to see what Nintendo says about it.

Though I agree there haven't been any good console 2d platformers since Yoshi's Island. Although, I have heard good things about the GBA Metroid games.

*slaps forehead*

I just played through Metroid Fusion again last week. I knew I was forgetting something really obvious. Not quite up to YI standards, but close.

I played the Gish demo a while ago, but never got around to getting the full game. Looked good, though.

There are videos of Yoshi floating around and they look great. Three great Mario platformers in one year? Wow.

My favorite Star Fox title was SF64, and Yoshi's Island has been my Favorite. Sidescroller. Ever. since it came out on the SNES.

I cannot fucking WAIT until I can buy a DS Lite and grab these games.

The only games I've played where the screen separation actually matters (ie, not just intros) are Bomberman and Warioware, and they both take the distance into account. I haven't played the Sonic game, so I can't comment on that.

And I'm pretty sure the DS Lite screens are the same distance apart as those on the original DS.

But anyway, it's pretty much impossible to tell until we see the game running on an actual system.

And here I thought I was the only one! I swear I thought Fox was going to say something about snakes on a plane next.

Nintendo has really stepped it up this E3. Best E3 in years from their standpoint.

I was going to say something witty, but I then remembered that you're an incompentent boob and stopped there after.

I didn't check... but am I the only dyslexic here who thought fox was saying "Stop the mother fucking ship" as the caption for the first picture?

I wouldn't consider Metroid or Castlevania platformers in the same sense as Yoshi's Island or Super Mario Bros.

If Nintedo had only anouced these two titles during their conference, I would have been overjoyed. The rest was just bonus (Wii who?)

Crap... Starfox on the DS? I might have to buy one now. I loved Starfox on the SNES. I actually entered a tourny for it once, granted it was at a K-mart. I still have the jacket I won... somewhere.
