Hahaha the Wii classic controller is a PS3 controller.

Bravo, Nintendo.

I think it looks sharp. Hope it comes packed with the Wii.

It's not sexy but it looks comfortable. They are sticking with the improved d-pad from GB Micro and DS Lite which should be awesome for NES and SNES games.

Um...
I can't even imagine using the sticks on that thing.
I think I'll just use my GC controller...

Looks uncomfortable to me, but true to the NES / SNES style. Going back and holding them controllers though, they weren't very comfortable to use at all.

I do think "handles" would have been nice, but since it is rounded and appears to be bigger than the SNES controller I think it will be more comfortable than the original NES and SNES controllers.

I do not like the sticks, other than that looks fine to me.

Two stupid questions: The Revolution has USB ports right? Could I just use the 360 controller? It kicks ass.

Two stupid questions: The Revolution has USB ports right? Could I just use the 360 controller? It kicks ass.It does have at least one usb port. I recall mention of a USB->LAN adaptor for hardwired internet access. I sincerely doubt that Nintendo will write drivers for a 360 controller, however.

a dedicated person could make an adapter to plug the 360 controller into the revolution.

In the same way someones gonna write a driver to let the MS HD-Drive work in the Wii?

If I recall correctly, the Wii will accept pretty much any off-the-shelf external hard drive as extra storage. Don't recall where I read that, but I'm pretty sure I did. Anyone else hear that rumor?

Looks pretty, and good for old games. Anything that requires use of the analog sticks, however, I think I shall be playing with my trusty GC controller.

Hehe, all they have to do is add some tilt sensors into the classic controller, just out of spite :D

Yes, I remember that. It's pretty much a given. I'm no expert, so take all this with a grain of salt, but: A USB device has some sort of way of identifying itself to a host device (computer, game console, etc.). It basically says: this is my manufacturer name, and this is my product name.
Now, almost all digital cameras, external hard drives, etc. will identify themselves by the same product name: 'USB Mass Storage device'. That makes it really really easy for Nintendo or whoever else. You just write *one* driver, for USB Mass Storage Device, and suddenly you can use just about any hard drive, digital camera... even the PSP identifies itself this way over USB (that's why the Xbox 360 can read its memory card over USB... but not do anything else useful with it).
Game controllers, however, are a completely different story. There are no such standards, to my knowledge. Every controller behaves differently, so you have to have a different driver for every different one. For the Wii, it strikes me as very unlikely that Nintendo will write a driver for an Xbox 360 controller. Not impossible, just unlikely.
Again, I did no research for this information, it might not be 100% technically correct.

wow that footage is some pretty amazlingly irrelevant shit, dude did anyone tell you doing something like that was going to be a waste of your time?
As for your little tantrum on the other thread about not being able to do a 180 in Metroid 3 maybe the controllers they're currently using aren't the FINAL hardware? Or maybe the sensors aren't?
As for that contoller, I wonder if this will be the "standard" one they were talking about? :/ I dunno how the hell you use those analog sticks they don't seem very accessable.

The footage was, so he snapped a pic in the middle of it for you to check out.
I'm digging this though. I am buying a Wii, and my Wii, wee, and I will have all kinds of fun together.

i bought that for looks alone, sadly i have big hands and could never feel comfortable holding it until it was a slow paced game like an RPG. Twitch-Fests were impossible
nice and dependable controller though

So I'm a little lost. What's the classic controller for? Virtual Console games? Will the Gamecube controller work for those too, or only for Gamecube disks?
I smell a cash grab, please Nintendo, make me believe.

I'm down the middle on this one. Whether or not it's a success, I dig the look. It retains features from all the consoles. It looks like you would be holding 20+ years of gaming in your hands. Although I have to admit, it doesn't look like it would be too comfortable...

Thanks for coming out. Obviously you don't actually want to know and just want to complain. You can get the information from Nintendo's Wii website as well as watch/listen to Nintendo's E3 conference.

Virtual Console retro games will work with a GameCube controller.
Ostensibly the "shell" is meant for both Virtual Console for people who don't have a GameCube, and for new Wii games from developers too lazy to impliment freehand controller functionality.
Of course because it seems unlikely that Nintendo will include the classic controller with the system, as a perpipheral it will see no support (unless perhaps they do something like package it with a Virtual Console starter kit..)
Of interest is that the classic controller actually has one more button than the GameCube controller (two shoulder buttons, and two triggers by the looks of it). Wonder if the analog sticks click like the PS2 and Xbox controllers do.
It also doesn't appear to be a shell any more, since I don't see anywhere for the remote to fit inside. I think the wire coming out the back would likely plug into the remote.

I think I may have to break out my Max and modify it, if possible, to play the NES game available on the Wii.

On the one hand, I'm worried that having a standard "normal" controller for the Wii will lead to developer laziness, relying on old control schemes when they should be thinking up awesome ones for the nunchuck/Wiimote combo. I think a situation forcing people to be creative yields cooler stuff than a situation where creativity is optional.
That said, though, it's probably a necessary thing to have. Not everybody's going to have other controller options lying around to play the virtual console games, some games might just NEED dual analog controls (I can admit playing Splinter Cell with a Wiimote might be... difficult), and it'll make porting games from Sony and MS much more convenient to have a similar controller.
So, accepting that it's necessary, I think it looks good.
