Yeah, I wouldn't really count Microsoft out. Apparently, everyone here forgot about the Xbox campaign. And I love bees. And Windows 95.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo knocked it out of the park. But, let's see Microsoft' conference before making any calls

It's been a long time since Nintendo did anything to get me excited about gaming. That was really impressive. I'll definitely be picking that up. Hope they're putting them into production soon so we won't have an XBox/Playstion type shortage.

I think Microsoft will do well. I think they learned from Last E3 what *NOT* to do. If you read anything from Microsoft lately they sound like a bunch of smug little bastards right now, like they are sitting on top of a bombshell. The majornelson posting in regards to the PS3 presentation sure seems to indicate they have good news coming.

Nintendo take this generation. Nice knowing ya Sony/MS.

Everything looked great. But there is no way I would ever make this my primary gaming medium. It looks like a nice "break" from normal gaming.

Yeah, im in the same boat. Ill get one, I'll probrably have a riot playing it, especially drunk. That said, by the end of the generation im betting my 360 collection and time spent is way higher then my Rev's ( still not calling it a wii!)

Notice the lack of PS3 anywhere in that paragraph. Get used to it, after the turd Sony just dropped.

After reading/seeing that presentation, I don't see how I can ever go back to "normal gaming". I think I'd rather have the satisfaction of cleaving an orc's head off than hitting a button. Call me crazy!

It looks like Nintendo's primary objective is to open up a new market, so I hope that they can put out enough units by Christmass so that anyone can walk into a store and just pick up one with out the preorder mess.

Overall not terrible but I wanted a price and I wanted details on the Virtual Console. Everything else was great (though I'm honestly not that excited about Red Steel). It was a solid show, but last years E3 was HUGE, they had everyone who saw the show foaming at the mouth. I actually fell asleep while Iwata was talking about Brain Age, Nintendogs, etc.

The Zelda demo was cool, but I can't help but feel that the game is actually MORE complex with the "simple" Wii controller than it would have been with the "intimidating" controllers of old.

I was really expecting Sony and Nintendo to be in KILL mode, but was left feeling like the phoned it in.

On a side note, between the Warhawk demo and the Tennis demo it's obvious that someone near the top of the console hierarchy loves to see people flail like idiots on stage to show what their games can do.

Constantly connected = massive lag if your online playing another game at the same time.

Bullshit.

If you don't believe me try this:

1. Learn how to use netstat
2. Alt-Tab out of your favorite PC online game and take a look at the netstat output. Odds are pretty good you'll see other network stuff going on besides your game.

I can have azureus downloading torrents on one PC while I'm playing counterstrike on the other and I don't even notice. Now obviously, I've got a cap on just how much bandwidth azureus can use, but I assure you it is using far more than a Wii will when it periodically pings the mothership to check for updates. The majority of that Wii connection will by downloading, not uploading, which fits perfectly with a typical asymmetric broadband connection.

Lastly, if you don't believe any of this, don't leave your Wii online. Seems pretty damned simple to me.

As far as the show goes, it was the patented Miyamoto-Reggie 1-2 punch they've perfected. They just bring out Iwata as a control group for people to realize how insane Kutaragi is.

I liked the Nintendo presentation. (even sick at home I enjoyed it). It was fun, and quick and showed the potential. I have some reservations though.

Good things.

- speaker in remote.
- both the remote and the nun-chuck have motion sensing.
- Lots of potential.
- games look simple and fun.

Not so good things.

- the graphics underwhelmed me. They could have added this controller to the Gamecube and I wouldn't have noticed.
- Some of the 'accuracy' has we wondering how exact the controller is. The guy playing red steal.. having trouble with exact aiming. I'm better with a controller than that guy was. And HE was a developer. The zelda guy also seemed to have some problems aiming. Sound like it's either not super accurate, or it's buggy still. Lets hope it's the latter.
- I don't know how many times they kept saying "Graphics don't matter". Well THANK. But games have always been about the wow factor of graphics. So please, I like the WII... I'll buy it, but don't tell me it's NOT about graphics, because.. its always going to be a factor. Or you would fire your artists :)
- No price! dammit.

A nice conference. Not as powerful as Sony's last year.

So please, I like the WII... I'll buy it, but don't tell me it's NOT about graphics, because.. its always going to be a factor. Or you would fire your artists :)

Artists take care of the Style, not the graphics, i.e., resolution and shineys. The style is more important than the graphics any day, and is unquestionably important to games. Graphics are also important, but we already have mighty fine graphical capabilities in the current gen - do we really NEED to do more?

And before I get flamed, Yes, I'm a Nintendo Fanboy, Yes, I own all current-gen systems, and I have a computer I've invested multiple thousands into to make it a high-end graphical monster. That may make me a hypocrite to some, but I see it more as "I don't need the graphics, and I don't think they're the most important thing out there, but I sure like them." Take that as you will. :p

lol, sorry, I didn't fill in the post completely because I was trying to talk about the downfalls before he moved on to the next topic. What I meant was in the worse case scenario your playing, lets say GRAW, and someone pushes out an extra to the Wii. Now if there’s no speed control on the Wii then your ping is going to go down the toilet. What I meant to say, which I did sort of say later, was that I hope Nintendo puts in some kind of control feature that will prevent the Wii from downloading at full speed there by hosing your connection.
I’ve learned this the hard way because run my Azurus with out any hard download limit so if my RSS reader picks up a new torrent my ping can go down the toilet.

And as great as I thought the conference was, we'll see if it's really any better than the sword fighting games in the arcades. new red steel trailer. hi res. pretty nice.

Yeah, this trailer is extremely entertaining. Hopefully that is actual gameplay footage too.

I was really impressed with the Nintendo conference, though I still hate the console's name and I'm worried about how the controller actually plays (as oppossed to how fun they make it look). Will it actually be fun, or will it be finnicky and difficult. I'm not sure where I'll put the motion sensors in relation to my set. . .

Also, does it require huge spastic movements? I only have the one couch that sits well in front of my screen and I like Nintendo multiplayer. Will the person in the center seat have better control than people sitting to the sides of them?

Also, they didn't mention the price. I don't need a tiny bump up in console strength and an un-tested controller that costs me more than $200. If they try to sell this thing at more than that, I'll probably wait for a price drop.

Still, even if it is $250, that is in the realm of possibility - unlike the $600 needed for a PS3.

Not too mention the endless stream of fucking smash bros, tennis, golf, kart, and party games on top of the mario main series. Mario has done the same shits for years, only now he can kick flip off a fucking wall, you want a trophy or something? They need to either kill off Peach or lock her dumbass in a tower somewhere. Yes, but last year Sony did pull a fast one. But it worked. At least for a few weeks.

They showed trailers, compared to MS's dribbled out info.. games didn't look so great, questions remaining etc. Sony walked over and said, "NEXT GEN" with trailers. People ate it up.

It was successful as HELL, even if it was a bunch of lies.

I agree that the waggle wand looks very hard to control. None of the guys demoing could get it to do the simplest tasks, with the exception of tennis. What the hell Ninty? Hopefully it's just about not having enough time to tune the controls because it just looked frustrating. As always, the games still look great from a design perspective. Especially Mario universe and Celda DS. Red Steel was disappointing to me. I'm not sold on the waggle wand yet. I can't wait to get hands on impressions from normal people. If you try it at E3, post post post!

That's so exactly what Nintendo intends. Just imagine these playable in stores come the holiday season. Mom and Dad won't care if the controls are crap. . . what they'll see is a game that has their kids moving around instead of just pressing buttons.

The X360 will be the economy "HD" system with the most titles overall and thus will probably enjoy the largest initial sales, the PS3 will be the Sony fanboy system (largest group of fanboys out there) and later, it will get more sales when must have titles come out (MGS 4, and FF XII), and the Nintendo will be the parent's system (affordable, and looks athletic).

No. Sony won all around in every category this generation dude.

You are right that Nintendo manages to get a great profit from it's smaller market share though.

I share other people's concerns that the system will have very few games worth playing, and I'm also concerned about the controller actually controlling well (as previously mentioned).

Still, their conference really got me hoping this system will be awesome and thus the next console I will purchase, but I'm totally not preordering until I read an unbiased review of the controller (or play it myself - tomorrow I am off to Los Angeles!)

Nah, Zelda just sells the people who would be sold anyways, just earlier. Much like Halo3 will do when its released for the 360 and all the Halo lovers who havent bought yet will jump out and buy it.

However, having Zelda at launch does very little in terms of growing their user base.

On a more positive note; Zelda Wii sounds great.

Um, I think that quote from EvAv is a quote from the presentation itself. I thought it looked a lot like Prime 1 and 2, but that's not a bad thing. Those were amazing looking games that I didn't think were possible on the GC.

Yeah, Reggie made some comment that it would be the most intuitive first person shooter ever or something similar, I don't think it was from Bap.

But that link we are suppose to check out is most likely gone by now.

Hope not. If the link goes down, they're in big trouble.

By "gone" I meant the link that was posted in the chatroom. But naturally it was posted multiple times by the kind folks in there.

Oh, RV. That was awesome.

I have to say that this press conference has me sold on the Wii. I'm going down to EB today and bothering them until they let me preorder one.

So much for sitting this next generation of systems out... Well, according to Nintendo, I'm sitting out the next gen and joining the NEW gen :)
