I wrote a fairly long MI:III Impressions thread a while back but when I clicked "Submit" it said I couldn't, bah.
To sum up: MI:III is way better than MI:II, I liked it.
SPOILERS below
I only WTFed two times: when Hunt shot down a flying jet with a friggin machine gun and when he DIED for few minutes.
Oh, and when Hunt's wife, who had a gun in her hands for the *first time* in her life, killed two bad-guys (one being a highly trained agent).
SPOILERS end here
Solid action flick.

It was an unmanned drone (controlled by the guy on the helicopter)... shouldn't those be easier to shoot down?

I wonder if the "less than expected" opening amount has anything to do with all the Scientology/Katie stuff Tom has been spewing the last few months. I know that that turned me off from wanting to see this, at least until it's out on DVD. I have a hard time seeing past him jumping on Oprah's couch and going off on Matt Lauer about perscription medications and seeing his movie characters now.

LOL, I thought it was a jet at first, too.
MI: III has very little plot... I think that's why I liked it so much. It's just one action packed escape/arial acrobatics/shit exploding scene one right after another and then a whole movies worth of plot crammed into the last 15 minutes.

That's definitely the reason. Tom Cruise used to be cool, imo, and it was kind of difficult to watch him because of how crazy he is. The movie is still good regardless, but because of who he is now it takes away some of the "cool" factor.

Ya know, I thought about the whole scientology thing when MI3 came out, but I went to see it anyway (the previous 2 were good).
And....
Its a darned good movie, best to come out in the last few months. Tom Cruise, as eccentric as he may be in *real* life, is a very good actor who doubles as his own stuntman.
I dont care what he does in his personal life, he does a good job on screen, so I wont let envy get the best of me and say he's a crazy xenu worshipper :)

Philip Seymour Hoffman is the fucking man. He pretty much single-handedly made MI:3 the best one yet, IMO. If not the best one, it's pretty close to the original.

Ended up wating MI:3 Friday night, was a lot better than I expected, lots of action and overall very enjoyable. Might have to go watch it again.

I saw MI:III as well. Definitely much better than the second. Wouldn't say it was better than the first, but enjoyable overall.

I seem to be hearing this all over the place. I thought he did a fine job, but I don't see what all the hubbub is about.

Maybe Hollywood action movies have learned the benefit of the physcolgical overwhelming effect machine-guns have on human brains: All the loud noises and bright flashes shutdown your brain as you are overstimulated into submission.
But that doesn't mean I'm going to watch it.

Frankly, the analysts who expected a better take are morons.
The reason they expected this movie to do better was because the previous iterations each took in 60mil. However both of those movies were on holiday weekends, which, historically, lead to better grosses!
Not to mention, it had to follow MI2. Man, that movie sucked!

I thought MI3 was average. I live a quarter mile from the bridge in that movie I'll just say they got the name wrong, the direction they were heading and the time involved. I still liked that part but overall just average. Being better than the last one is not a high mark in my book. Wait to rent, not worth the price.

I must admit, even though Im not a big fan of Cruise after this scienthology bullcrap. I liked the film. They did a right thing by getting J.J Abrahms to direct.

The more I think about the movie the more I don't like it. I think part one was much better. 3 was better then 2 but that's not saying much.

Silent Hill was great. I really, really enjoyed it.
I'm not a fan of action movies like Mission: Impossible, but I might check out MI3 when it hits DVD just because of Hoffman. He's one of the greatest actors of his generation, hands down. I'm glad he's becoming more popular now, but I hope that doesn't mean that he'll start appearing in a bunch of crappy mainstream flicks (see MI3.)

I have no desire to see MI:3 solely because Tom Cruise is a retard, and I can no longer take anything he does seriously.

Glad to see Silent Hill isn't completely off the charts yet. It really is a decent horror flick. As for MI:III, screw Tom Cruise.

I wouldn't give him the "one of the greatest actors of his generation" mantle just yet. He has already appeared in several mainstream turds.

He was fantastic in Magnolia. See that movie and you know that he is an amazing actor. He's chosen some crappy roles, but he was good in all of them. Being in mainstream turds doesn't make you a bad actor. There are a lot of bad actors in mainstream turds every weekend though, so I can see where the confusion comes from.
I liked Mission Impossible 3 alot and yes Philip Seymour Hoffman is a great bad guy in it.
