ShackNews' (http://www.shacknews.com/) column, Late Night Consoling (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/41943), recently featured a blurb on a new Wii (http://revolution.nintendo.com/) game in development by SNK (http://www.snkplaymoreusa.com/):

Speaking to IGN, arcade favorite SNK today revealed Metal Slug Anthology for Wii. Every version of Metal Slug released in arcades since the series' 1996 Neo-Geo inception will be included, as will "many additional surprises" (been spending too much time around Nintendo PR, eh SNK?). Control schemes taking advantage of the motion-sensing Wii controller have been added; it is unclear whether a traditional control scheme will also be uncluded via the promised traditional controller "shell", or how the new control scheme will work. "Fans worldwide have been looking forward to our return to Nintendo platforms and what better way then to bring our complete Metal Slug arcade collection to Wii," said SNK Playmore USA president Ben Herman. "The Wii controller will be used in a new and unique way that enhances the gameplay. Our fans have demanded that we support Nintendo platforms. Let the celebration begin."

No release date was given for Metal Slug Anthology, though the game will be present at E3.
Killer AP #1 has been deployed.

Hm. I'm imagining a control scheme similar to Abuse, where the pointy-part of the contoller is used (instead of the mouse) to aim and fire, with the analog stick attachment for movement. Which seems like it could work really well.

Dunno if Metal Slug is a killer app for most, but I'll be damned if I don't love me some Metal Slug! I've played it a lot since my room mate modded his Xbox ... should be a lot of fun. Here's hoping for online co-op!

Ugh...I hated that control scheme in Abuse.

Every Metal SLug? I really hope this includes 7 as it looks fantastic.

Worked well for me. And I've never got the hang of moving while simultaneously shooting diagonally in Metal Slug. Or any other games that required it. *shakes fist at Super Metroid*

And besides, separating movement and aiming gives you more freedom. cf. any FPS game. Or Smash TV.

Metal Slug is cool, but I don't see a port of the Metal Slug catalogue qualifying as a "killer ap." I would hope the Wii has something better in store.

A collection of the first 6 Metal Slugs is being released on PSP this year too. I'll be picking that up. I don't think I'll bother with the Wii version unless it has a unique control scheme (as some have mentioned) and it works well. I've already played the Metal Slug games a LOT so there's no reason to buy yet another copy for home use.

I'll buy it on PSP though, just to play on the go.

I've only played an emulated version of a few of these games. I'm pretty terrible at them, but they were a lot of fun. Putting them all together into one collection with the promise of an interesting new control sceme? Color me very interested. I'm with Perigon on this one. I can't wait to get some Slug on my Wii!

I really liked Abuse's control scheme, it's a hell lot better than any other.
I hope it is that good in the wii. But it's not really a killer ap.

I do. And this is a Killer App for me, especially if it's a launch title. I love Metal Slug! Especially with two players!

You can't shoot diagonally in Metal Slug. You can only swing the gun between two perpendicular angles and hope some bullets go where they're supposed to.

I really don't picture this becoming the killer app, but it sounds nice.

Hey, I got one of those new Wiis with the accelerometer controllers! Want to come play Metal Slug on it?

Metal Slug on your Wii... Control-A.

I miss Abuse...there's nothing like the creepy ambient noises and monsters screaming out of nowhere to freak the hell out of you.
