2K Games to Publish Ghost Rider Video Game Based on the Popular Marvel Comic Book Franchise and Upcoming Columbia Pictures Film
New York, NY – May 1, 2006 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that it will publish Ghost Rider, a new third person action title featuring Marvel Comics' iconic motorcycle riding supernatural super hero, Ghost Rider. The game will be based on both the classic comic book series as well as Columbia Pictures/Marvel Studios' star-studded big screen adaptation of Ghost Rider that is expected to blaze into theaters February 2007. The big-screen action-adventurer features Oscar®-winner Nicolas Cage in the title role alongside Eva Mendes (Hitch) and Wes Bentley (American Beauty) as the villainous Blackheart. Ghost Rider is being developed for console and handheld systems by Climax Group and is scheduled for simultaneous release with the movie.
The Ghost Rider feature film follows superstar motorcycle stunt rider Johnny Blaze as he strikes a deal with the vile Mephistopheles for the most precious of commodities – his immortal soul. Now Johnny Blaze is forever destined to ride night after night as the host to the powerful supernatural entity known as the Ghost Rider. The video game continues the storyline, dropping players into the role of Blaze as he is transformed into a super hero with powers to avenge any evil he encounters. Featuring many of the characters and motorcycles from the comic book and movie, Ghost Rider will engage gamers in an immersive, supernatural third person world with a seamless blend of hand-to-hand combat and high-speed motorcycle action.
"Ghost Rider is one of Marvel Comics' most successful comic book franchises and we're thrilled to bring this beloved series to a broader audience," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director of 2K Games. "The video game will build upon the popular elements from the Ghost Rider franchise and intertwine its thrilling action and original, compelling content into a gaming experience fans will love."
"Marvel is excited about the upcoming Ghost Rider video game," said Ames Kirshen, Vice President, Interactive at Marvel Entertainment. "2K Games is creating an innovative game that showcases a combination of amazing hand-to-hand combat and motorcycle action intertwined with compelling third person play that offer gamers a truly unique and diverse gameplay experience."

I think it's hilarious that Marvel's most obvious and potentially best license is Captain America and yet they just sit on it and license crap like Ghost Rider.

*GASP*
How dare you?! Marvel's most obvious and potentially best? Hahahahahahahaa!!!!
It's DareDevil and Ghost Rider. They screwed up DareDevil, gotta redeem themselves with Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider is not crap, Ghost Rider is one of my most beloved comic book heroes. Go sit in the corner for an hour!

I mean, X-Men is the most obvious as far as money and popularity goes. Forgot to mention Deadpool being my other favorite, but he's underground.

Gotta disagree. If they had put out a Captain America movie right after September 11, everyone at Marvel would be going to the bathroom on solid gold toilets right now. As a concept, it can't miss. Unless you hate America...
and not only that, if you've read stories like The Ultimates or Mark Waids run on Captain America you'll agree that when Captain America is done like an average guy who believes in something so much that he can accomplish the impossible, it's one of the best fictional stories out there.
I'm not even a big fan of captain america. I don't buy the books. But I know he has ridiculous potential as a property.

I have to agree. I always thought by summer of 02 there would have been a Captain America movie. They could have taken a Navy Seal or something, gave him the super soldier serum, etc... and built it around that. He didn't have to capture bin laden, but it could have been something like kicking terrorist ass.
