PS3.ign.com (http://ps3.ign.com/) has some pre-E3 footage of Brother In Arms 3 (http://ps3.ign.com/objects/772/772044.html) (video (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/772/772044/vid_1481002.html)), by Gearbox. It looks pretty nice, and shows a little squad attack so there is not a whole lot of game play shown, but it is supposed to be real time. The graphics are great, and it is using the Unreal Engine 3.

I guess people will try to compare this to Call of Duty 2 on the 360. Remember this is an Unreal 3 engine game.

Editor's Note: Thanks to Oddmaker for the additional submission.

Game will also be coming out on X360 and PC, and should look identical on all 3.

And it smokes the shit out of Call of Duty 2.

Update: http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/773/773087.html -- IGN is now hosting the same video there as a 360 video, except it is not in HD.

And thus, the real Killzone 2 graphics are revealed. Not very impressive.

Also, notice the considerable chop in framerate during actual gameplay.

I believe you may have watched a different video. I watched the Brothers in Arms : Hell's Highway video and I am very impressed. I look forward to this, absolutely!

That grenade explosion gives me the shivers.

I'm kind of tired of BIA play mechanics, though, honestly. I'm more interested in more strategy(ala commandos 1 or 2, I suppose), or just pure action with numbskull sidekicks(COD or Half-Life 2).

Playing BIA-EIB, I found myself frustrated because there were many places where I felt very little freedom of route. You had to go this way and you had to flank at points a, b, and c. Any other course of action left you completely dead. Now I'm sure that happened in realistic combat, especially when facing an entrenched enemy, but that doesn't cover every scenario in BIA-EIB.

Hey, I probably the most anti KillzoneE3 video around, but this has nothing to do with Killzone. Bringing it up adds nothing to the conversation...

Sony set expectations with the Killzone 2 video. If the next gen games don't meet that expectation, then what the hell have we been waiting for? I didn't see anything in the Brother In Arms video that can't be done, quite nicely, on the 360. Have we been duped into waiting for a system that is no more powerful than the 360, a system you can buy, have in your house and start playing games on TODAY?

Remember, the PS3 will be even more scarce this holiday season than the 360 was last holiday season. If Sony has the same fulfillment issues Microsoft had, which isn't unlikely, then it will around this time next year before you can easily walk into a store and pick up a PS3. That's a long time to wait, just to experience 360-like games.

Same exact video is hosted on the 360 site. Can we modify the heading so as not to confuse people?

Umm make a sticky of this post. I will guarantee you before the end of the PS3 cycle there will be many games surpassing that Killzone 2 video. The models in Gears of war and UT 2007 are way better already as well as the textures. The only thing really impressive is the smoke effects.

i'm still cautious that the video is realtime as far as gameplay-wise. if you notice the audio and the movement, the commands were being given and carried out before the HUD Command Icon is even placed. And don't me started on the catching the wounded character... >.>

HUD overlay does not make this anymore realtime than the Killzone video IMO.

I noticed the same thing about the icons popping up after the motion and callout. It's pretty obvious.

This, Killzone 2, and those inexcusable commericals for COD2: The Big Red One.

When are marketing companies going to learn how much they're pissing people off with these trailers? Do a pre-rendered trailer, that's fine. GRAW's pre-rendered trailer was great. But don't do a pre-rendered trailer in first person. That's simply dishonest. But their response would be "Well, it gets you idiots to talk about it on forums all day, so that's easy publicity."

That and the fact that most of their customers don't give a shit anyways. It is only your typical hardcore videogame junky who gets his panties in a wad worrying about whether or not footage is pre-rendered or actual gameplay.

I'm kind of fond of nice pre-rendered stuff, lol. I think I spent more time watching the opening movie to Warhammer:DoW than I did playing the game. I want a feature length movie of that quality. I used to use it quite a bit to demo my projector/HT setup.

Nice graphics but it's still just another game in the huge pile of WW2 shooters. Consider me not interested.

Right, but the opening movie of Warhammer wasn't from a top down perspective with a mouse moving the guys around. They didn't try to play it off as in-game footage like they did for Killzone 2. Like I said, pre-rendered stuff is great, just don't present it in a way that would confuse it with real gameplay.

And as far as customers not giving a shit, the UK's Advertising Standards Authority ordered the Call of Duty 2 commerical to no longer be shown (http://gamesindustry.biz/news.php?aid=14891) because it was misleading viewers. The only reason this happened was the commerical was in first person, which suggested it was gameplay. Had the commercial used cinematic angles, no one would have suspected anything because that's the way commercials for games have been done forever.

I find it curious that you are holding the makers of Killzone 2 responsible for what the makers of Brothers in Arms do with their game.

Why do you sound like a salesman? Is it your mission to get as many 360's sold as possible?

A great source for 360 videos and pics. If an HD version exist you will find it here http://www.xboxyde.com/index.html?NL=1

Also, the sister site for PS2 and PS3 pics and videos http://www.playsyde.com/index.html?NL=1

Who has been duped? Certainly nobody that *I* know... The specs have been public knowledge since LAST YEAR. They are just NOT that different. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that the PS3 and the 360 are not all that different in terms of their capabilities...

Its going to boil down to which console has what games. In this case: its a draw.

If you like the games on or announced for console "A" then buy console "A".

The hardware is less and less and less relevant to what games are really possible anyhow. I am sure that even the Wii will have graphics that make people quite impressed... How many polys do you guys NEED to get immersed anyhow???

Realtime sure, but that clearly wasn't trying to pretend it was gameplay. Grenades exploding on impact? Catching fallen team-mates and taking control away from the player in a dangerous situation? Gearbox know better.

Now that was a Quality Game Intro!!!!
I love Pre-Rendered stuff too. I used to save a game on Final Fantasy just before every CGI Sequence so that I could reload and watch them again :)
