Here is the trailer (http://www.gamebrink.com/news/387-Yakuza_Slips_To_September_Says_New_Trailer.html) mentioned in the headline.
The first English trailer of Yakuza shows off the lead character's moves and proves that he is the Japanese version of Neo.
Visit the official Yakuza website here (http://ryu-ga-gotoku.com/).
I can never understand why it takes so long to localise games. I guess in this particular case they've probably found an English-speaking (American probably) voice actor to read all the lines, so that will take more time. But it still seems to take an inordinate amount of time for localisation.

Looks like a souped up version of Shenmue. Too bad the trailer has no gameplay footage.

This game is a whole buncha fun! It's a lot like Shenmue (the same guy is behind both) but with a little more action and of course the yakuza theme. I think there's going to be a lot lost in the translation but it should make for some good entertainment.

Translation is a long and costly process and for the most part companies aren't really happy until it's done right. Not only does the game itself need to be translated but dialogue needs to be re-recorded and in the case of text heavy games, you have to try and balance the amounts to fit the same space.
Add to that that games may not come out as soon as they're ready, they may be pushed back to a better time to capitalise on better seasons.

No.
Shemue = Yu Suzuki
Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza = Toshiro Nagoshi
I hope they will keep the Japanese voices or at least make them available as an extra option.

Really? I was sure there was a connection between both games. Maybe the same development team? They are too similar to be a coincidence.

Looks a little overblown and overhyped to me. Plus, you can't get any gauge of the gameplay from the trailer, so a lot remains to be seen.

The gameplay is like shenmue, right down to the fighting system.
I've seen videos of the fighting. Looked clunky.

Anyone recognise the music or is it just stock, trade-only stuff?

Fighting system is not anything like Shenmue. Watch one gameplay video and you'll see that.
And I don't see how the game can "slip" to September when the only date we had was a tentative "Fall 2006".

Well, they are both from Sega :)
But yeah, it's very likely that some ex-AM2 members (developers of Shenmue) went to work on Ryu Ga Gotoku due to the Sega's shuffling of it's teams (though I admit not knowing much about that).
