New Prey weekly update #16 includes answers to user submitted questions. (http://www.3drealms.com/news/2006/04/prey_weekly_dev_16.html)
New Prey trailer; video releases will be frequent until release, so ignore if you want the game to be a surprise. (http://www.3drealms.com/news/2006/04/new_prey_gamepl.html)
Prey pre-order details have been announced. (http://www.3drealms.com/prey/preorder.html)
I've asked on the 3D Realms forums about the CE and Europe and it seems that it's North American only (including Canada). Same for the pre-order figure incentive (Info was obtained from Joe Siegler by contacting 2K directly).

Ha-HA. Craziest level design I've ever seen. Think I'll be pre-ordering this one.
So for eb games you have to go to the store for limited right?

I really can't wait for this game. It looks so good!!
The levels reminds me of the alien world in Duke Nukem 3D for some reason. That's a good thing though.
I said the same thing when I was watching those vids, it looks and feels like duke quite a bit. Which is a very good thing!!! ^_^

You sound surprised that Canada is part of North America. FYI it is.

That looks pretty great. The music sounds decent, and that part with the miniaturizing portal was amazing. But I don't know how I feel about a) the player character making audible comments and b) the cheesy little Painkiller-style souls that dead enemies leave behind.

I agree. The game looks super sweet. The level design is a fresh change from the average FPS. The commentary was absolutely lame and unnecessary. Another thing that has me very disappointed is the AI of the monsters. They appear to be brain dead. They just come running straight at you or stand there shooting at you. It looked rather easy to fight them with potential to get super repetitive. I hope there are no long boring BOSS levels where you unload a weapon, hide and repeat only to find out there is some goofy weakness once is exploited the monster drops dead.
I'm still interested in this game but I haven't seen anything that makes want to have it the day it hit the shelves.

Like so many games in Europe Im guessing this will come out on Dvd. We seem for some reason to be ahead of the U.s in releasing games on Dvd instead of multi-Cd Roms.

But yes, you're right, and it sucks. It's very silly to think that people spending hundreds of dollars on video cards, gigs of ram and multi-gigahertz processors aren't ALSO willing to spend $15 to get a DVD drive. It's getting better, though. A lot of the games I've recently bought came on DVD. Splinter Cell, Condemned, Oblivion.
So hopefully we are catching up.

It has gotten to the point in game development where meeting the standard expectations in common areas (graphics, UI, MP) creates a large base cost.
Many devs can choose to innovate in one area and pray for the best. In FEARs case it was AI. In Prey's case it is Level Design.
Personally I think what these guys are pulling off in LD is brilliant and will raise the bar for other games. (Though with the excess of WW2 theme it will be easy to for those devs to avoid adding this kind of innovation in their games via blocking fiction.)
This rates a buy and I hope they do well.
I will be playing this game almost excluseively MP. I hope a class based mod comes out for it and gains an audience.

You made a couple of good points and yes the level design is what had me most impressed with the videos as well.

I don't suppose anyone else realizes this reeks of Turok (sans dinosaurs). It looks amazing but if the AI doesn't improve I don't see a reason to buy it. Level design alone isn't enough for me to pay $50+ bucks. I require a challenge too.

I think just because the guy has a bow does not a Turok make.
It may be that mind bending LD is not worth your 50. If you represent the masses it ruts the developer stuck making another project with just one innovation. Lets see the list Wheel of Time MP, Unreal 2 XMP, Savage, Dynamix, ...
and then the masses complain that every game out is WW2 soldiers, well what do you expect?
I think its pretty much player expectations that keep the industry where it is.

One thing is for sure that level design is "f*ked up!" as the main character so wonderfully pointed out. With this game coming for 3D Realms and all did anybody else have a little bit of Duke Nukem 3D deja vu when you heard those craptastic one liners?

It's not JUST the bow that made me say that; Native American suddenly thrust into a conflict where he must embrace his heritage with special abilties and big ass guns...and yes the bow too. For it to be just like Turok, you would have to change the level design so that you're jumping for half the game.
Also, I should have clarified that I believe the LD ALONE is not worth 50, though it is very nice. The portals are a nice touch, and if it's more "Serious Sam" type action I can understand the lack of AI. When all you hear is "ohhh, those LD's are nice" however, it seems like there's not much else there to compliment.
I'm all for new innovations in FPS gaming and I think "Prey" is going to kick some serious ass (can't wait to see the MP design). I'm just waiting for them to share more videos and details before I get all excited.
Also, the industry tends to stay the same because...that's what sells. It's not really a lack of innovative ideas or people not willing to buy them. Just good ol' fashion milking a franchise/time period.
