There was a book about this, about the philosophy of fairytales or something like that.
A lot of the ancient stuff, like Grimm's original stuff, clearly comes from a time when people largely starved generally. Of course you marry a prince, he actually has nice living conditions :P Meanwhile, love is always shown in the form of food. "Good" mothers are always trying to feed you, and evil witches trying to eat you.

Anenome gave the usual conversation starter, so I'll just chip in with the lawls.
That was fun! I've forwarded it on to the fiance for more chuckles. :D

Haha! Very good, and Very true.
Many more could be added to this list, and it is not exclusive to disney or any other. It is more or less a general culture.
I am a weird person since I chose my fiance based on her capabilities and intelligence, of course she is beautiful (to me) but that comes way behind as there as a vast amount of more beautiful women I could could have chosen.

There is nothing weird about kissing girls while they're unconscious.
That's gold, Jerry! GOLD!

For your sake, I hope your fiance doesn't read this site. Saying shit like that will grant you a one-way ticket to Abstinenceville.

I hate the Disney princess crap for much different reasons in that it teaches young girls to covet, desire and ultimately think they deserve EVERYTHING!

This is nothing about disney.
Fairy tales are sometimes cruel and other stuff, nothing new here, move on.
Hint: children don't interpret much in things as adults do.

I haven't seen sleeping beauty, but I think 90 minutes of a girl being unconscious is a good place to start. Jk

I was thinking the same when I read it, there are always supposed to be unspoken truths in life. Especially regarding women!

The Disney Princess model is to little girls what the macho super solider is to little boys. Both are ridiculous extremes of the ideals that typically appeal to either gender.
With few exceptions little girls (and many--if not most--grown women, if we're being honest) are enthralled with the idea of living in opulence with a caring, strong prince who ceaselessly pledges his eternal love, resuces them when they're threatened, and forever stands by their side to live happily ever after. It doesn't have to be misogynistic; chivalry is not automatically insulting to all females.
And there's nothing wrong with any of that. It only becomes a problem if a little girl grows up so obsessed with the idea that she's unable to be happy in the absence of living the princess lifestyle. But I'm sure that's the very rare exception.

She doesn't read here.
And we are particularly open with each other. I might have received a snag comment, but nothing too serious. I say things like these all the time.
I like to make comments about other women when I'm with her, just to see her get angry. It's funny.

For your own sake, cease this habit well prior to getting married. There is nothing to be gained from it, and much to lose.

But that was a nice thing to say. If he heeds that small bit of advice, it will save him quite a bit of sorrow and stress post-marriage. Trust me. :)

The messages behind a lot of fairy tales are pretty messed up, and probably do condition children towards certain views of life that are less than nice.

Disney is not perfect, but I think they generally send a correct message to girls. Mulan is an acception however. Parents should protect their children from that feminist propaganda. the older they are, the better the message is.
I've always liked Aladdin. You cant tell me little boys didn't think Jafar became the hero when he enslaved Jasmine.
