NCSoft and ArenaNet send along word that Guild Wars Factions, the highly anticipated Guild Wars (http://www.guildwars.com) expansion pack, is now shipping to retail stores.

ArenaNet, developer of the award-winning online roleplaying game Guild Wars, and NCsoft Corporation, the world’s leading developer and publisher of online computer games, announce today that one of the year’s most-anticipated PC titles, Guild Wars Factions, has officially shipped. For fans of the game that revolutionized online roleplaying, the wait is nearly over as Guild Wars Factions goes out today to retail stores worldwide.

Guild Wars Factions is the stand-alone follow-up to Guild Wars, the game that set new standards in online gaming with fresh design, innovative technology and no-subscription-fee pricing. With an expected retail price of $49.99, Guild Wars Factions will be available worldwide and servers supporting the new release will “go live” at 12:01 AM PDT /7:01 GMT on April 28, 2006.

Those who pre-ordered the game will be able to participate in the exclusive Guild Wars Factions Head Start Event beginning at 12:01 AM PDT/7:01 AM GMT on April 27, 2006. These lucky gamers will have access to the game for a total of 48 hours, including a full 24 hours before the game’s global release. During the first 24 hours of the Head Start Event, ArenaNet has planned an exclusive in-game event titled "Day of the Tengu," in which players will join one-day-only "Day of the Tengu" quests, and earn exclusive in-game rewards.

Guild Wars Factions takes place on the Asian-inspired continent of Cantha, where players create a character from eight distinct professions—including the newly created Assassin and Ritualist—and join an epic quest that pits two warring factions, the Luxons and the Kurzicks, against an ancient evil, and against each other. As players become embroiled in this brutal war of conquest, new missions will provide both roleplaying fans and competitive PvP players the opportunity to help determine the fate of Cantha.

Guild Wars Factions is rated T for Teen. For more information, please visit www.guildwars.com. (http://www.guildwars.com./)

If this is all you have to say, why bother posting?

I, on the otherhand, will be playing this tomorrow since I have it preordered. This sponge is headed to Cantha.

If you don't like PvP, then this game is not for you. With a friday ship date, I wonder when the stores will get it exactly? Next Monday?

The 28th is the street date.

And I don't do alot (well as much as many people, I'm only R2) of PvP, and I play the hell out of it.

Is this the expansion that makes it so I don't have to kill the same fucking scorpion everytime I leave Avalon?

That is one of the most acclaimed features of GW. You are able to leave for other games (read Oblivion) and hop right back in.

I agree about the PvP thing, GW is not like WoW, NCSoft should be slapped for marketing it as such. They need to take out a damn 2 page spread in every game magazine that says in huge type "GUILD WARS WE'RE NOT LIKE WoW" and small type under that explaining how GW is almost all about the PvP, that would clear up a lot of misconceptions and probably get a lot of more people interested for the right reasons, not because "It's like WoW with no monthly fees".

Only picked up GW yesterday. Still in n00b land (which I believe is Ascalon before the searing... or so I hear) and as such haven't really been able to make too much comment about it. At least it has proven more enjoyable than that drek of a program that NCSoft call AutoAssault.

Do you play this game? If so and you think it is all about PvP, you are missing out. Sure the PvP is great but the PvE is what I liked best. The EvAv guild is a PvE guild mainly and we still manage to recruit a lot of people that are "tired of guilds being too PvP focused".

If you need a guild let me know.

I was in newb land until level 9. I thought the game was getting kinda boring, then it dawned on me I had to trigger certain quests for advance the plot

People have figured out how to get to lvl 20 in presear now. Since enemies also gain XP from kill, you let them kill you over and over until they level up. Then you can kill them for greater XP.

I just don't like how the PVP is seperated from the RPG mode. They should have been combined.

half of the pvp comunity is already whining that they shouldnt have to play pve at all to unlock skills, so i dont think thats an option.

No, that's the reason why it should NOT stay split into 2 modes.

Okay I'm a little confused here... as I said I'm only new to GW but if you go the PvE option with your character does that mean that character can't get involved in PvP? Or is it only choosing the PvP option that precludes you from being able to play the PvE part of the game?

It is not like WoW where to can just go up to another character and gank them. You have to go to an arena, join or be assigned a team, and fight the other team. This will be simulated for you at the end of pre sear.

Edit: To directly answer your question PvE can do PvP. PvP can't do PvE. My PvE character can go from cities to arenas and back, but any PvP I have must stay in arenas.

Great. I knew about the PvP and PvE areas being seperate but would have frankly given up if my PvE character couldn't participate in PvP events. In short it is similar to CoV/CoH in this regards.

How about yesterday? Got myself a preorder disc, as they were free, games will be put up for sale today. If anyone wants a preorder key (including exclusive ingame items), let me know, I'll have a spare key by tonight. If you do have a chance, get one yourself, it's worth it, if only for the music on the disc.

I'm mixed. I spent 90~ hours in Guild Wars and had fun, but never bothered to make it to level 20. Don't know if I'm up for another round, honestly, and the price is way too high. I never got into PvP all that much, but it was ok.

I'd like to make a Asn/necro, but there's just so much else worth playing.

I don't know, Expug. I mean my life has gotten so dang busy. I played the whole preview weekend and I wasn't really impressed.

For me, I think they took too long and the GW high wore off.

Animal Crossing
Brain Age
Metroid DS
podcasts
family
work
Gal Civ II
eating
sleeping

all seem to have gotten in the way of being able to spend a good set of hours on any one game or thing.

Who knows? I may still surprise myself.

It's for the European version, so I don't know if it will be compatible with the US version. Either way, you have a message.

I had the first one for so long but never played. Me and some friends bout to give it a full go to see if it's worth buying factions. Some of my friends are turned off by the 8 skills at a time thing.
