VALVe (http://steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&id=604) brings word that the company is developing titles for the XBox 360 as well as porting their popular source engine onto the console.
“The combination of Source and the 360 provides game designers the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences,” said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. “Whether developing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres, the Xbox 360 is a great platform for expanding Source and our game experiences.”

Theres definitly nothing bad about this news (although as usual we'll get the obligatory knocks against Steam from those who haven't dealt with it in like 2 years since its bug ridden origin)

Oddly I seem to recall Gabe saying some time back they wouldnt be porting to Xbox. I should try to dig that comment up.
In some ways, Live is a competitor to steam, so I can see why they could have reservations.

Are they just porting the Steam game engine or the full Steam content delivery system?
If it's the latter then it should be intresting what becomes of the 360s perceived "well refined interface." Being that they allowed SE to do it with FFXI/PlayOnline I'm not about to rule this out.

It will just be Source.

This is surprising considering the supposed weak sales of HL and HL2 on consoles, although I imagine it's more for greater viability in the engine licensing market.

Newells changed his tune on the 360 since before its launch then. I was here hoping that Valve would stay on the PC, but I new this was just wishful thinking.

Yeah, I mean this is Microsoft, they probably dumped a truckload of money and fried chicken on his lawn and the rest is history.

Lets hope they start charging for extra maps :D
- edit Actually I wouldnt blame valve if they did, in general people were pretty ungrateful for the lost coast and always bitching about not getting it soon enough

lol. living up to the tagline: Whiney Fanboy Troll
back OT - this is great news. 360 is now becoming the home of FPSs and FPSers (including those FPRPGs, like oblivion, of course), so i would say this is a good move by valve - and look forward to the rediculous mouse-speed-cheating being removed from CS:S:360.

The are talking about updating it or what not to make it xbox 360 ready. I wonder if the other stuff Valve is working to add like depth of field, motion blur, color correction and film grain effects to their engine is going to be in the Xbox 360 version.
