This game looks like crap. I'm sorry, I just can't imagine trying to play a game like this on a handheld... and why would you, anyway? If you're on a trip long enough to warrent you using a handheld instead of your console, then put gaming aside and enjoy the frickin' trip and what's going on in REAL LIFE around you...

Gamers are such damn lazy people sometimes... myself included. But there are and should be limits.

it probably will do a lot better on the DS than it would on the PSP! I'm of the persuasion that the PSP is a highly over rated piece of crap. :)

Graphics are supposed to get slight improvments, and I believe there will be at least one additional dungeon. I can't remember where I heard that though, so don't quote me on it. I wouldn't expect too much more than previous FF GBA ports, but I'm fine with that (but more would be better!)

Well by that I think you mean the FF3 as it was in the US, which is actually FF6. This FF3 is the FF3 that was on the NES in Japan but has yet to be officially translated to English and released outside of Japan. The remake would be the first time the real FF3 will be released outside of Japan. So I know I haven't played it before.

I have heard this idea mentioned before though. "Why play a handheld if you are at home with your console?"
I have a big hi-def tv and some kick ass games but I still find myself playing my DS more. I guess it is just because the games are really fun. Plus the ease of use helps. I can pick up my DS and hit the on button and be playing in a few seconds. But if I want to game on my console I have to turn on the tv, change the channel, turn on the stereo, set it to the right setting, turn on the game system, wait for it to boot up, load my game, watch a cinema, read some text, press 18 buttons to do a 48 hit combo and summon a demon.

I realize that this explanation plays into the "lazy" criticism. But if you can have fun by taking one step, or have fun by taking 20 steps, you are going to choose the one step more often. It is just logical.
If we go by this guy's logic, then why should you drive to work? Just walk, you lazy bum! I don't care if it is 10 miles away! What, are you lazy or somethin'?!

Some people commute to work on things called buses, subways, trains, etc. The DS is great for that, as well when you are on a trip, say, visiting family, you've been there for a few days, things are wound down and you can't find anything to do...hello @ DS. It's also nice to have it with you traveling for an alarm clock. It's very practical. Just because you can't find a place/reason to use it, doesn't mean everyone else can't (and judging by it's sales, obviously many can and do). Essentially your argument is against portable gaming itself, not the DS. And that's just a silly argument, hands down.

Not to mention there's a stack of grade A fucking games for the system. Duh.

The DS might not be totally super-awesome for 3D, but have you seen Nanostray? Metroid Hunters? Hell, even Mario 64? (RE too in a way)

No doubt in my mind that it can pull it off in an extremely playable way.

My decision to buy a DS Lite when they come out stateside is now completely solidified. Between this, Metroid Hunters, the new Super Mario Bros, the upcoming Zelda game, Mario Kart DS, Phoenix Wright, the Mario 64 remake, Advance Wars, Animal Crossing: WW, the complete GBA library... there's no other place you can get that much fun that cheap. :D

And no, I'm not a shill. I do have a childhood affection for Nintendo, but aside from the Gamecube I finally picked up last summer I haven't owned one of their systems since the original NES. On the DS Lite and the Revolution, though... I'm sold.

I'll buy Final Fantasy III for DS, but definately not FF6 for GBA. Honestly, you can play a superior version of Final Fantasy 6 -RIGHT NOW-. Square continually profits, quite happily, from retro gamers by releasing the various old final fantasy games with slight changes to different platforms. Fans buy the same game, over and over. And the longtime fan is rewarded how? With a feeling that if they do not buy a particular remake they'll miss out on some awesome dungeon, and with a series that continually distances itself from it's roots (and therefore these same hardcore fans.)

What Square is doing with FFIII should not be some marvelous exception, it should be the norm.

Butz and Galuf are the greatest heroes of all time, that's why my first son will be named Butz (My wife wouldn't let me don't worry). But seriously the job system in 5 was almost flawless, if they change that when they get around to making a remake i will have to resort to things I don't like doing, Ranting.
