Full press release Inside.
I think the winners should get a share of the profits from the download too! Seems like MS cheaped out on the prize pack here.

New “Kameo: Elements of Power Design Your Skin Contest” Challenges Fans To Unleash Their Inner Artist
Ever wonder what “Kameo: Elements of Power” would play like if Pummelweed was dressed like a roller-skating ninja? How about if Kameo had metallic skin and bat wings?
Since the very first onscreen pixel, fans have dreamed of creating their own original art designs for their favorite video game characters. Now Microsoft Game Studios and Rare Ltd are giving Xbox 360 fans a chance to unleash their inner artist and make the dream a reality with the “Kameo: Elements of Power Design Your Skin Contest.”
From April 19 to May 24, 2006, aspiring artists can visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/k/kameo/designskincontest.htm to get more information and electronically submit a unique, originally designed “skin” of one of the elemental warriors or Kameo herself from “Kameo: Elements of Power.” Designers will enter for a chance to have the whole world play their designs when they are made publicly available at a later time.
The contest is open to aspiring artists 13 years of age or older. Entries must consist of an original design of either Kameo or one of the elemental warriors, a title (example: “Roller Ninja Pummelweed”) and a brief description. Finalists will be judged by a panel of Xbox and Rare team members on the basis of creativity and feasibility for the team to reproduce as downloadable content. One winner for Kameo and each of her warriors will be chosen for a total of 11 winning entries. For a complete set of rules, please visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/k/kameo/designskincontest.htm.
From renowned game developer Rare, "Kameo: Elements of Power," grants players the ability to morph into unique and incredible warriors allowing the main character Kameo to search out and battle ever-present evil. Boasting impeccable next-generation graphics and innovative gameplay, "Kameo: Elements of Power" shines as a giant leap in game development. Continuing its legacy of creating dynamic puzzles, immersive combat and enormous environments, Rare fuses multiple genres to create a strikingly fun gaming experience destined for widespread appeal. For up-to-date information on "Kameo: Elements of Power," visit the official expanded site at http://www.kameo.com.

can someone give me a screenshot of the a badass character from that game? I have yet to play it but I do not want to skin the female form or some flower.
and yes, that prize package blows for the amount of work needed for this competition.

When I started playing games, the whole character was that. Just a PIXEL!
L33T MOD! Pong paddle now a cheeze grater! The ball is now a TRIANGLE!
Interesting contest.. but I guess that sharing a % of the online sales is a bit of a slippy slope for a contest. Contracts stuff and legal thingies. (open to US residents?)

Well, it's still pretty lame. At least reward people with more than 1.000 points? Give one or two free games?
Just cheap. I mean, fuck... they're giving you a t-shirt for this. Wow.

Don't forget the CD. Maybe, if we are lucky they will put something on it.

Nice effort but why make skins for a single player game?
Note to Microsoft: Humans do customization of their stuff for largely SOCIAL reasons.
Mostly, this means so that other people can see the stuff they produce AND tell them how cool it is. That won't happen very much with a single player game.

1000 points? Do you know how much horse armor you can get for that? Should you really be calling anyone designing anything for Kameo a winner?
Of course I kid, maybe they should give people something better as a prize, like some free Gold Live time or something.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how does anyone know it's not a free download? Would make sense (although, they could go pay just as easily, but who knows).
Assuming it's free, the prize seems ok. $120 (2 games, as Royal Fool mentioned) seems a bit much for a character sketch.
Oh, and Wonka, what about all the skins that are available for Morrowind?

I know, What I meant to say was that the prize seems fine IMO, some of the people here seem to think they should get a big reward for this.
I mean look at the press statement, this contest seems to be geared towards the younger crowd a bit. So whoever's judging it probably isn't expecting much.

Ya, it's not like the game has online co-op... Oh wait, yes it does. And I liked skins even without that.
