With E3 2006 coming closer and closer with each passing day details begin to leak about new, unannounced before projects. One of them is the "staple" of japanese racing games - Ridge Racer, which after a brief love (http://www.namco.com/games/ridgeracer6/) with a Microsoft console comes back to the Sony world in the next installment.
IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/702/702300p1.html) has the scoop on this "banner PS3 title":
Online support seems like it will exceed that of Ridge Racer 6. Namco is aiming for support up to 14 players Online at once. This is the same number as that of RR6, but Kobayashi believes that adding more players would be unnecessary. The team is planning on new Online play options that take the game beyond mere competitive play, with Teramoto revealing that something akin to cooperative play will make it into the game.
Finishing off Famitsu's early glimpse at Ridge Racer 7, Kobayashi promised a title that would make PS3 owners glad that they purcahsed the system.
Ridge Racer 7 will make an appearance at E3 in a couple of weeks. While it's unclear if the title will be playable, we can at the very least expect a first look via a trailer clip called Ridge Racer Vision 2010.
And if you know japanese you can check out this Famitsu scan (http://img31.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc136&image=47187_RR7.jpg) which shows first RR7 screens.
There's no place like home, eh Namco?

Namco really slapped Xbox on this one. Across the face, powersliding around to the ear. Also.. Soul Calibur 3 only on PS2? Nice.

I just don't get this game. I tried the demo on Live and was like...WTF!

I played for 10 minutes and almost puked, but apparently it gets better if you stick to it. I guess RR is the JRPG of race games.
>which shows first RR7 screens.
If by screens you mean CGI screenshots than yes ;) This is from the E3 promo movie.

I've never really been interested in the RR series since Ridge Racer Revolution on the PS1, got the Angel car on that, a proud achievement!

Is it just me or do publishers get more sales and hype if they stay "exclusive" to one format? All games maybe except for sports, seems to generate more sales and hype when staying exclusive. Ridge Racer was a superhot franchise in the PS days for example, People like to root for something "mine is better than yours".

RR6 is crap compared to PGR3. I tried to play it once and thought I was playing a PS1 game.
LOL Vandenh is right, Ridge Racer is the JRPG of racing games.
I looked at some of the scans and its just seems to be more environments and graphics. YAWN.
I think racing games need to bring more to the table now other than more realistic cars and environments. PGR3 for me is a benchmark in visual realism for driving games. It's more than realistic enough and fun to play online with friends. I don't even really notice most of the effects and graphics which are in PGR 3 when racing :)
A racing game will have to give me something extra and different. I won't buy PGR 4 and Forza 2 or Gran Turismo 6 unless it has something new.

I played the demo for RR6 on the 360 and I thought it sucked but you know what, it doesn't matter. Didn't it sell more copies than any other game for the 360 in Japan initially? RR7 will most likely be the same game (same game, different graphics from the PS1 days) and it'll sell well for the PS3.

So thats why the 360 is selling so poorly in Japan..... they havent released enough shitty games!! :D
Frankly RR6 sucked, I dont mind that 7 goes to the PS3.

Ridge Racer 6 is fun, but it plays just like all the other Ridge Racer games.
Even if you really like it, which I do, I wouldn't think of it as a system seller. Fun? Yes. Worthy of $60? No. Worth buying a whole system for? HELL NO!

This might be likened to rats jumping off a sinking ship - the ship being the 360's initial reception in Japan. I'd love to hear what more informed members think.

Guess I'm one of the few people on here who actually liked the game. I don't like it that much that I need a new one each year though.

I don’t blame them for jumping ship with this franchise. PGR and NFS flattened this game, and it ended up as one of the lowest selling 360 games. So they’ll bring it over to the PS3 and try their luck there.
I hope it doesn’t damage the chances of other Namco games coming to the system though, such as Tales or Soul Calibur.
