Courtesy of Comic Book Resources (http://www.comicbookresources.com), I present to you, dear Evil Avatar readers, the Secret Wars Re-Enactment Society (http://youtube.com/watch?v=YveSHqhOkdo&search=comic%20book). For those who don't know, Secret Wars was a major Marvel cross-over in the '80s and one of the first comic event books EVER.

This is actually really hillarious and well-done. Kudos to the guys who made it -- I'll be checking out their video podcast for sure.

I bought this comic when it came out. I am old. :(

This was a bit better than I expected. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed, Maskatron. Man, I wish I would've been around to get stuff like Secret Wars and Crisis on Infinite Earths. Not only would the issues be worth a ton now, but that must've been exciting.

^^ Oy, don't remind me about the 12 original issues of Crisis that I had, all signed by George Perez at a BIMONSCIFICON. Stupid asshole ex-roomate swiped 'em and sold them or something.

Very seldomly. It's a time thing, between busy urban life and just trying to keep up with all the movies and books I never seem to have time to watch or read. The last few things I read that I liked were The Ultimates and Astonishing X-Men. There's a lot of stuff I would like to check out, like some of Grant Morrison's books.

Those are both great books worth checking out in trade format if you get time. Keep an eye on our Comic Day! discussions. :)

Awesome video. I thought Secret Wars was awesome when it came out.

I want to see the film version of it. I can imagine quite a big budget would be needed :D

You know, somehow Morratut's post just reminded me that I've never read Secret Wars in full yet. I should order in that trade.

As I've said far too often in the Comic Day threads, big crossovers like Secret Wars are what eventually drove me away from comics in the mid 90s. It's just an excuse to take way more characters than you can effectively use and throw them together in a big "epic" battle that has few, if any, real consequences. It's just a marketing tool to sell more books. That said, there are rare exceptions and I have hopes that the upcoming Civil War will be one.

And look at that, I brought it back to civil war, which can bring me back to the topic at hand, which is that this video is freakin' hilarious.

"But Fing-Fang-Foom wasn't in Secret Wars." "MY POINT EXACTLY!!!"

Awesome movie. Perfect degree of humor.

I enjoyed the Secret Wars. I used to joke with someone about how a movie series based on them would probably make some heads explode.

Infinite Crisis is certainly an exception.

I loved Dr. Doom's little pep-talk he received...the squirt of water in the mouth and the drag on a cigarette...
Classic.

I don't know, from what I've gathered both online and flipping through issues at my local comics shop I don't think Infinite Crisis is really for me. I'll probably still pick up the trade when it eventually comes, but both this and the original Crisis strike me as being too much about cleaning up the universe and it's various inconsistencies. It's certainly nice to have a universe that makes sense, but I feel like the process of cleaning it up, along with all the backstory that you've either got to know or have reiterated, takes over too much of the story.

I know I've mentioned Identity Crisis too much, but that really does strike me as the best type of crossover. Nearly everything you need to know before you start reading is either contained in the story or you can figure out reletively easily. It had real and deep repercussions for the characters and it didn't take the near destruction of the entire universe to do it.

Events like these are usually signals for me to start hopping back into comics. Crap like this tends to "reset" the universe, in a way. It makes the lines far more accessible.
I rarely ever read DC comics, but I'm taking this Infinite Crisis event as my key to hop in. I'm starting with the new Blue Beetle line, myself.

Fair point about being good points to jump back in.

I do admit that the newer crossovers, like Infinite Crisis, are better than the older stuff like Heroes Reborn, Secret Wars, etc., but that's just the simple fact that writing in mainstream comics has improved a ton in the last ten years. Still, IC strikes me as still the same type of crossover, just better. It's a difference in degree, not kind, and even a few really nicely written character moments are overshadowed for me by the main stories.

"But most importantly its about History, its really about knowing your roots. I mean kids today, they are reading about Wolverine's cloned sister. What the hell is that about?"

"I thought we agreed, no girls, no children!"

Good stuff! :D

While this is true of the original Crisis, this Infinite Crisis is far less about cleaning up the universe than it may seem. More than anything, I think they just set out to tell a strong compelling story with this one.

Identity Crisis was good, no doubt. But it was also far from the kind of "event comic" that Civil War and Infinite Crisis are.

Still, IC strikes me as still the same type of crossover, just better. It's a difference in degree, not kind, and even a few really nicely written character moments are overshadowed for me by the main stories.

I disagree with this, but only because I think the Geoff Johns is an absolutely stellar enough writer that this has been all about great character moments. We'll see what you think when you read the trade. :)

Indeed we will. Despite my bitching, I am increadibly weak when it comes to reading well liked trades.

Yeah, I'll usually try to check out trades even of stuff I'm sure I'll hate, like House of M. It helps that I can order in trades for free through my library's interlibrary loan.
