Meridian4 (http://www.meridian4.com/) have released a demo (http://www.meridian4.com/games/Daemonica/index.html) for their mystery/adventure title, Daemonica. Here's a bit about it.

The demo features the first act of this five act murder mystery as it unfolds and unravels in front of you.

Welcome to the dark middle ages, to the world of demons, bandits, sin and punishment.

You are Nicholas Farepoynt, Haresh al-Dorem, he who speaks with the dead. You are one of the Beast Hunters, a free association of those who, with the help of knowledge of the ancient language of Daemonica, pursue mass murderers and take the law into their own hands where necessary. With historical motivations in their blood and with abilities of which ordinary people do not have the slightest inkling, you are setting out to resolve your next case. It does not seem to be complicated, but appearances can sometimes be deceiving...

Daemonica is now available for purchase in most retail outlets and online at a suggested retail price of $29.99. It is rated Teen by the ESRB.

Has anyone picked this up yet?

I have picked this up and completed it. Probably about 5-10 hours of gaming here. I recommend it because of the story and unique investigative technique of the main character.

Since this game was created by a small number of people and not given the huge multi-million dollar budget of some studios, do not go in thinking this is the next capstone of adventure games. It is a simple, paced game that I found enjoyable.

Graphics: 5/10 (like Diablo I)
Music/Sound: 7/10 (Nice ambient music and passable voice overs)
Control: 6/10 (point and click to move, simple combat)
Story: 8/10 (Intriguing story line of demons and talking with the dead to solve crimes)

Overall: 7/10 (would play again just to see the multiple ways to screw up and die)

It is also available for download through StarDock (Gal Civ 2!).

If anyone has questions about the puzzles let me know.

These guys have done a fantastic job with the tools they have. I use the same engine as they have and they really have put its every feature to good use.

I intend on buying it. Reviews have been extremely positive overall.

Ooh Daemonica! I get to be a Beast Hunter! The game has Demons!
Seriously, isn't anyone else getting tired of this s#@t? Can I get a damn game for adults around this place? I am not trying to be a troll but this post illustrates the problem with games today. They are very shallow. And they all have demons and guns. I wish I could jump ahead about 30 years to get to the games that are made with an intelligent story and cohesive writing. I can't wait until this early phase of crappy games is over.

Actually, there is not a single gun in the game. The demons you interact with are your guides in the afterlife so you can find the souls of the departed and get information from them.

Owned.

Jacktion, at least do your research before launching into a bitchfit on the state of gaming in a thread about an indie adventure title...

Yeah. . . super-lame.

Gone are the days that I'll wait for a 15 hour download. They should put the full demo up on game sites so that I can get it in 15 minutes.

Sounds interesting and totally the kind of thing that I'll throw money at, but I want to demo it first and won't wait.
