1UP (http://www.1up.com) has got the goods on the latest Dark Messiah of Might and Magic preview (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3149483). For those not familiar with this game, think Oblivion combined with Source Engine physics. In addition to the interview there are also videos which provide more then a few minutes of in game footage.
Here's your snippet:
This game is objective-driven, and it's really about what you do, and not how you do it. Because of that we reward the player not on how many kills you get, but the fact that you reached that point. So if the objective is to get to Room A to get some kind of item, we don't really care as designers if you broke through the door, or killed the NPC and grabbed the key, or if you stole the key, or if you found some beam and climbed on top of it and skipped half the location -- it's totally fine.
Thanks goes out to Blues (http://www.bluesnews.com/) for pointing this one out.
This is one of the big games that made my list for the upcoming year. Glad to see its coming along, although I would be happier if I didn't recognize half of the textures and sounds as coming from Half-Life 2.

It looks like Might & Magic: Deus Ex. Dark Messiah is a mission-based game similar to Deus Ex or Thief.

This has been on my list for a while now and im still just as excited about it. The first person perspective action in this game looks alot more engaging and exciting than the stuff I have seen in say Oblivion.
I love the hand and battle animations in this, very visceral.

Dev: Arkane Studios? Might and magic setting?
Release date? July.
What hardware will I need for that one?
Now you got me excited.

Since its using the same engine as HL2 I would imagine that the system requirements are very similar.

The only thing it has in common with oblivion (from what I can tell) is that its medievil.
Its got more in common with hexen, Especialy the fire hand thing, very cool

Sexy. I wonder if they'll release it via Steam? I understand that this is not automatic just because they're using Source, but I can hope.
Hahaha. I just imagined what a Garry's Mod would be like for this game. I wonder if it will retain the same moddability of other Source engine games.

Man, that looks really awesome.
The combat looks fantastic!
Can't wait for it now. Hopefully it'll be released on Steam. Does anyone know if it's going to be?

Now Presenting: Gordon Freeman of Might and Magic!
Man, this would make my machine quiver, vomit, and die. Either way, that looks great, and one can never go wrong with a little Deus Ex or Theif likeness thrown in.

Wasn't this a serious RPG franchise at one time, rather than just an FPS (First Person Stabber)? Not that I have a problem with that, I'm just kind of wondering why I haven't heard anything about another real RPG coming out for the franchise. Though, from what I heard, MM:7 and MM:8 were both pretty worthless.
I'll be checking this out if it gets good reviews.

Um, Source uses Havok physics and so does Oblivion. ;)

They probably shouldn't have shown how the fireball spell behaves the exact same way as the HL rocket launcher.
Seems interesting, kept my eye on this since the last bunch of videos, but still a little rough. And I'm hoping that the demo movies were on god mode or something.

I've beaten all M&M games except #1 and believe me they were never "serious" - always funny, full of inside jokes and overall easy on the atmosphere.
As for why you haven't heard anything about the next M&M RPG, well, the series stopped selling. Shame that both M&M, Ultima and Wizardry never reached the 10th installment :(
Of course any M&M game is better than no M&M game at all. This is a must buy for one of the hardcorest M&M fan there is - me.

That alternated between totaly awesome and shamefully naff. Should be good when they polish out the naff stuff!

Hate to prove you wrong, but if you want to be technical...
Wizardry is on its 15th or so installment. Wizardry X 2: Mugen no Gakuto was just released in Japan a few weeks back. Its the same old wizardry system, Knights, Samurai, Paladins, Preists etc, Deep dungeons, square based movement and all that. The series has been very popular in Japan since the Return of Werdna came out here I believe.
If you need a Wizardry fix here, and don't speak Japanese, theres one for the PS2 that I'm told is very good.

The mission structure is very similar to thief, this is the biggest difference from the previous MM games which were classic free roaming games.
this looks awesome!

Wizardry X 2 Mugen no Gakuto takes place in a school located in Asia. You take on the role of a student at the school and, together with fellow students, battle demons as part of your training. Players can form a party of up to six characters, including yourself, when you head out for demon busting in random generated dungeons. Battles are turn-based, and make use of a time system where enemies change between seven elemental forms as time progresses in the game. When you're not fighting enemies and working through dungeons, you'll find yourself moving around the school grounds. Each area of the school serves some purpose for your party, allowing you to combine items, heal your characters and edit your party.
A sentence with "Wizardry" and "Asian school" makes no sense to me.
"Wizardry" one to eight were published by Sir-Tech Canada (also known for the Jagged Alliance games), which went out of business after the 8th game. The japanese games are made by a different company and after reading the above description I somehow doubt it could deliver the same experience as the Sir-Tech games.

Oh god no! Even Wizardy gets the cross dressing school-boy treatment. Is nothing sacred for Japanese???

Can't wait for this game, but I'm ready to see some vids of their Battlefield-esque multiplayer mode already.

Now mind you, the other wizardry games on PS2 etc in Japan were still the old in the dungeon style. X2 Gauken is um.. weird. I did actually play it though, and strangely, aside from the fact its in a school, it keeps the same wizardry system from all the way back in Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.
Other topic: What was the name of the fourth Real Wizardry, the one that was supposedly next to impossible and had you playing as the mad wizard trying to get his amulet back? I remember it, and I remember being warned that the last four levels somehow formed a 3 dimensional shape you had to solve. Anyone play that one and able to share war stories?
(Edit: I'm not defending the weridness of the Asianized Wizardry, but it does keep the old system intact, even uses the old Title. What I am curious about is if the team just bought the system/name from Sirtech?)

The multiplayer is said to be pretty good.
Now that I thought about it, it most definitely will have starforce. What to do what to do?

As much as I may be interested in it... If it has starforce, no thanks.
No game is good enough to infect my computer with a "protection" scheme that apparntly now can reboot your computer whenever it feels like it.
About the only other option is to get it and pirate it at the same time, to break the "protection" Which is what ticks me off most, this supposed protection has been cracked for awhile now, so all it is is malware that screws with computers, what's the point of harming the users still?

I would say the chances of a Steam release of this game are slim to none as it already has a significant publisher - Ubisoft. Steam releases are pretty much limited to Valve games and non-Valve independents who have no publisher or small publishers (SiN Episodes being an exception).

Ever since I saw the video where the guy picked up some kind of monster with telekinesis and threw him out a high window, I've been interested in this game. This is what I wanted to do with the gravity gun.

Considering that Heroes of Might & Magic V is no longer going to be using StarForce, there is a very good chance Dark Messiagh won't as well.
