I doubt the upper screen with be THAT much bigger, but yeah, that's about right. Should be suweet.

Not only are the words 'mock up' in the picture, but Kotaku already said it was an artists' rendition. FROM ANOTHER BLOG, WITH THEIR LOGO ON IT.

How in God's name did this even come close to the front page?

Not sure if that was intentional, but I laughed.

The contrast of those 2 sentences, and the fact that I was expecting the first one, contributed greatly to my laugh.

Also, yeah it is based on the descriptions of some leak or some shit like that. It will be interesting seeing the actual thing in E3 and comparing it to this though.

RTFA. It features damn good reasons why this picture exists and IS news. This isn't a random mockup, it's a mockup based on confidential descriptions was trusted sources.

It's a poor mock up. I'm sure i've read that the new screens are meant to be so close together that they appear as one big ass screen.

I did read the article, where it explicitly states that this is a mock up, and not the 3DS, as the original poster asks us. What part am I missing?

A mockup based on eyewitnesses with access to hardware is different from a BS mockup cut from whole cloth without any access to real data. If this mockup is a fair assessment of the truth then it may as well be a picture. It's the closest we can get until the thing's revealed.

Where the artist majorly erred was the misinterpretation of the resolution.

Nintendo has released the specs for the 3DS, including the stuff we couldn't tell from looking at the thing, like screen resolution and weight. The 3.02-inch bottom screen has a 320x240 pixel resolution, a small bump over the DS's 256x192 resolution. The larger (3.53-inch) top screen has an 800x240 resolution, though it's really two 400x240 images superimposed over one another for the 3D effect.


So he read the top screen res as being over double the bottom res, but figured that meant it had to be literally wider, thus the crazy top screen picture.

We're seeing the telephone game in picture form here.

Also, thank god the analog stuck isn't a goddamn nub like the artist assumed. And I'm glad they made the analog stick the primary input device. But putting the cross lower it actually becomes something like another 4 usable buttons.

AP: That video shows tilt-based perspective correction, awesome! That's the same technique used for pseudo-3D we saw in that DSi game-demo awhile back, but this time it's using real 3D >_>

And Hey! They're calling it the "3DS"! I'm so glad they're not changing the name, it's just perfect.
