Now this is something you don't see everyday: Belgian gaming magazine PlayerONE (http://www.playerone.be) has put some lovely Brothers In Arms 3 scans from its own issue on its own website. You can read the article (it's in... Orcish!) and see the shots by following this (http://www.playerone.be/playerone/be/news_details.php?id_news=5737) link.

The are also other scans flying around showing much better pictures but since they are from a US magazine (namely PlayStation Magazine (http://www.psmonline.com/)) you have to search for them for yourself.

Why do some of the images look so hazy? Is this some sort of graphical effect or just crappy scans?

Oh great, ANOTHER WWII shooter, ANOTHER Brothers in Arm game - just what we needed! I take it this is going to be a yearly franchise? I barely realized the first game was out before the second hit. Way for Gearbox to actually make their own game for once (albeit an entirely uncreative one) and then milk it to death in no time.

It's in Belgian? Wow, congrats Borys, you just made up a new language ;P

FYI, in Belgium they speak Dutch and French, Dutch being the national language.

I agree. The WWII shooter genre just does not excite me any more. I absolutely loved MoH AA on PC but couldn't muster the enthusiasm to even rent COD2 for the 360. The fact that developers have to work within a narrow historical context only adds to the problem. You can only invade Normandy so many times.

Well there's actually plenty of other big events from WW2 that could be translated into a game. Not all necessarily 'great' victories either. I imagine that trying to surive battles like Dunkirk or Dieppe would be pretty hardcore. Has there been one game that dealt with the Italian campaign? But I agree, they really do need to stop milking D-Day.

My problem with WW2 shooters is that they are prescripted and are thus just semi-mindless but beautiful extensions of previous games.

Brothers in Arms actually innovated on this concept and delivered new gameplay with squad combat tactics. My only problem with this is that I don't really enjoy it personally, and I think one innovative original quickly becomes derivative when your sequels fail to innovate. Hopefully this one will move the franchise forward as the original moved the genre forward.

What I think I'd really like to play in the WWII era is a game that places you in the role of various Brittish spies. Combat levels are infiltration and exfiltration with optional stealth tactics or run-and-gun and the other half are spy levels that have only minor bits of stealth gameplay maybe sneak past a guard, but mostly all about using gadgets and behaving in-character or gaining trust, etc. (lots of minigames required, I have a whole design doc in my head for various tasks).

Actually sflufan, no .. Flemish is not a language, it's a dialect much like American English, or Australian are not really languages, but geographical representation of where they are being spoken.

Flemish is spoken in Flanders, but it does not exist as a language, the national language in Belgium is Nederlands, aka Dutch, or to be 100% correct, AN, which stands for Algemeen Nederlands.

I think someone needs to step up and make a Civil War FPS. How much more heavy would the tension be when it takes you twenty minutes just to re-load?

Not quite the Civil War, but as close as we'll get right now (Revolutionary War). It's a mod for HL1 and HL2. Obviously it doesn't take a realistic amount of time to reload your guns, for gameplay's sake, but it does take a good 10 seconds or so between shots... which doesn't sound like much but is when you've got 10 enemies standing in front of you.

Oh, and sorry for the derail... (not really).

On topic. I didn't like the previous BIA games so I have no interest in this one. I do have to agree with people saying ENOUGH with the WW2 games.
Though I've been saying that for about 3 years now. No end in sight.

Why are you saying it looks bad? Come one people, its next gen. It -should- be looking like Barbie World. That's what next gen graphics is all about. Everything getting a plastic coating.

I was talking with a designer friend of mine a short while back about the viability of doing an FPS from that era, and being a total historian he actually came up with a lot of really cool game mechanics that I wouldn't have thought of dealing with the technology and small unit tactics of the time.

What sucked about this franchise was that you were so inaccurate. Even with the ironsights it was random as to whether you hit someone or not. It just got old fast... And I didnt even play the first one to completion.

I'm not a huge FPS guy to begin with, but I enjoy a good one. I also think that the WWII genre is beyond spent, but really enjoyed CoD 2.

I haven't really liked Brothers in Arms from the start though. The accuracy seemed way too random and headshots just dont seem to register.

I am not really impressed with the graphics either though, everything looks really fake. I understand that everything is using better textures and great new next gen effects but everything looks just plain artificial. Like plastic or some shit.

Umm..then what does a good in game character look like because your sure as hell not playing a game with better looking ones right now.

The characters look like dolls. There are definetly better looking character models out there and have been for sometime, try Half Life 2.

First, I was just tired of the six million and one WW2 "franchises."

But now I'm doubly tired of SEQUELS to WW2 games.
