A while back the Japanese came out with a disaster/earthquake sim, now it looks like we're getting another...in the form of Bad Day LA (http://www.enlight.com/bdla/), the hobo simulator.
Correction: Make that a hobo/disaster simulator!
Be good sheeple and watch the video (http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?playlist_id=238&s=l) http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif
Update: After that awesome video, here's what the actual game looks like (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=58813). No doubt less frantic but still exciting nonetheless.

W.O.W.
That looks awesome.
I always found the hobo/disaster simulator market to be ripe for the taking.

Weird mix of GTA/Infected, but I dig the graphics. However, the screenshots don't look anything like the exagerrated Jet Set Radio-like graphics in that video trailer.

A while back Japanese came out...? What kind of crazy sentence is that?
I'm assuming you're talking about the incredibly awesome Disaster Report game that came out for the PS2 a few years ago from Agetec. There was talk of a sequel that would involve a flood, but I'm not sure if that's still in the works.
If you haven't played Disaster Report, go find a copy. It's one of my favourite little gems for the PS2. Outrunning a falling skyscraper or tsunami wave crest is so much more rewarding than dodging zombies. It's not perfect by any means, but the destruction of the city is very well done.
Anyway, Bad Day LA does look pretty sweet. I love the art style and it looks pretty funny.

Massive violence *check*
Offensive and crude humor *check*
Classic "racist" stereotyped characters*check*
Impending Lawsuits *check*
Really now, this is the next one on my list.
Hopefully its not just another GTA, I'm truly looking forward to something else when it comes to gameplay.
Edit:
God, I can't spell.
I blame videogames! :p

I like how they equate homosexuals getting married with a tsunami killing thousands. Besides that it looks interesting. That is definitely not gameplay footage though.

Heh. Hardly a troll.
I just tend to avoid the fanboy hype. Not that I have anything against American McGee. He even has a cool name.
But pre-rendered cutscenes, heavily edited and masterfully pieced together with a killer song on top of it can make the most unpolished and average game look spectacular.
Trust me.... I worked on True Crime: New York City... I know what I'm talking about. We had a great video, and a mostly boring game.
Thanks for the flame though. Luckily for me, venom feeds my soul!

Fanboy? I dont see any fanboyish comments... Do you maybe just mean...Fan?
Or does liking something at all now days make you a fanboy?

So it did come to the US... I was under the impression that Disaster Report was a Japanese release only.

I take all the American McGee stuff with a grain of salt. I mean, wasn't there supposed to be an American McGee's Oz instead of just a line of bizarre toys followed by no game whatsoever? It was like some kind of elaborate april fool's joke mixed with sheer avarice.

This looks to have the right blend of action/adventure with satirical humor. Go too far with one and the other seems like an afterthought.
This'll probably be a used buy for me, or a Gamefly, but I'll definitely give it a shot.

I gotta say, even though the music was shite, that definately gave me half a stock for that game. Looks pretty B.A.

haha this looks awesome, last news I heard is that McGee wants Dave Chappelle to voice the lead character?
Wonder if that's going to happen. I admire McGee for doing different stuff all the time.

One of the things I find most interesting about this game is that it's being developed in China. Warren Spector mentioned in the latest escapist how it's so much cheaper to get art and programming done in places outside the U.S. and Japan, BDLA might be the start of a trend for games being outsourced.

Yeah, I was about to say, I have this video saved from at least over half a year ago. Nothing new at all.

Disaster Report was the biggest disappointment I've ever had with games. Okay, that is an insanely huge overstatement, but it holds some truth. I was so so stoked for it, and then when I got it, I was loving every second of it. Then, when the game ramped up, it slowed down. Literally. That crap ran at like 5 fps when anything happened, it was like a disaster simulator wherein a syrup factory exploded, making everyone's escape very...slow. I loved it, but it was so slow that I found myself more angry than excited.
Oh no, a building fell! Good thing I'll have plenty of time to escape it. And check my e-mail. And walk the dog.
I would commit murders for a remade and optimized version of that game. So close, and yet so far.
Oh yeah, Bad Day LA looks pretty sweet too. Lets hope it is more Disaster Report and less State of Emergency.

But, sweatshops already exist here in the U.S.!
What are the salaries in China like!?!
A room, water, and a small window?
Just joking, I didn't know this, it is very interesting.
Enlight is the developer?
They have a strange history of only strategy games, this is their first action title.
Hmm.

Yeah, I must say that I reacted to that too, had to rewind the video to check that it really read what I thought it read...
On the game itself, I have no comments what-so-ever :)

Don't worry, you can play it in high-def on the PS3 at 120 FPS, and you'll be able to upload the textures to Sony's server and have them age like fine wine.[/obligatory PS3 joke]

This game looks like crap in screen shots, but good in motion. Further proof to me that screenshots aren't even worth the effort anymore.

American McGee presents .. Sheesh. When Videogames are getting larger and larger teams of talent, he still puts his name on games.
Jason Jones's Halo 2.
It's just ego. Isn't McGee a glorified level designer?

I don't recall Disaster Report having insane slowdown. Must be my overclocked PS2
But yeah, it definately had its share of problems, but I still loved it.

Actually this was one of the things that bothered me... I think I remember him saying in an interview in CGW that in the US, development is more expensive and that people try to get there own opinions into the development of the game, while in China he can pay less and they will do EXACTLY what he says, no input of their own. This actually kinda turned me off... He wants nothing to do with the creative team process and would rather just have cheap drones building the game he invisions exactly as he sees fit... While some would say that is totally understandable and acceptable, it was a turn off for me.
[PATRIOT MODE ON]
I cant stand seeing him take work away from great american developers and give it to our enemy, China.

Hah probably another reason he took development overseas... his ego demands the game be exactly what he wants and that he only gets credit.

Uhh...If i were a developer, and especially one with as unique and twisted a style as A. McGee, i don't think i'd want anyone else moving their "vision" into it.
It reminds me of the time a friend went to get his truck bed sprayed with liner....he asked for gray and they did it in black. When he ask what the hell they'd done that for, the guy that sprayed it said "oh well it would have looked shitty in gray".
That's what i think of the creative process. I like A. McGee's style though, so the more direct it is, the better, in my book. I guess no one here liked Alice?
Edit: And obviously it's his name on it because that's what sells it...he's got a different style and sense of humor (although the whole "Strawberry Shortcake" thing makes me wonder). He's obviously trying to remove any other creative involvement in the game itself by sourcing it out to china, so that he can put his name on it and say that it is his.

American Mcgee...proof positive that all you need to be a game designer is Trendy name and a Huge marketing machine to back your more than likely not to be released title.
Oh well at least he's out of his Prepubescent Girl on Acid phase.
I wonder how many folks would change their minds about the Phantom if American McGee "Presented" it? :P

OK, I'm a little late in the comment game on this one, but there is a nagging feeling in the back of my head that this is some sort of GTA meets Postal staring in an episode of BUMB FIGHTS. I loved McGee' last stuff of course, and that video is promising, and Im a sucker for a cell shaded game too, but those screen shots scare me a bit....
Here is hoping my fat ass is wrong and American McGee shuts me up but good!
