In a heavy debate over why CCP EvE online has had much success over Cryptic studios Star Trek Online... the truth (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=2690063) finally comes out.

It's very hard to lay people off in Europe. I'm not sure an American company would have gone in the same personnel direction as CCP. (Not trying to be political - there's a LOT that goes into a company's decision making process, but national labor policies do factor in.) I doubt anyone at CCP would have considered doing anything but what they did anyway, but keeping their team relatively large during those tough first years helped them develop content and fix stuff at a very fast rate.

So because it's harder to lay off europeans, they stayed together as a studio longer and made greater things???? lol weaksauce

Never buying a Cryptic game ever again.

I was going to say it was because EVE online was a better game in general. You know.

I entirely agree.

I used my free month and then paid up for the 3-month package. Next bill date is coming up and I decided to cancel. The game has a lot of potential, and there's a lot I like about it (the writing is solid and the story segments are cool), but the core gameplay is pretty much the same 3 fights over and over. Stays fresh only so long.

Hate to drop it considering how long I've been waiting for this, but there's too many other far more compelling things out to spend my time on. I might jump back in a year or so down the road, when they get their stuff more worked out. We'll have to see how that goes.

In the meantime, I still get to eagerly devour any GW2 news that pops up and look forward to more news on the WoDMMO.

Star Trek and Star Wars aren't necessarily great premises for an MMO. Not every narrative can be adapted to every gameplay mechanic. You couldn't make a horror puzzle game!

*ponders*

I'd like to see someone try though :P Maybe at a random interval... something can happen.
