World in Conflict is a strategy game that delivers intense action and coordinated team play amidst the war the world feared most – an apocalyptic showdown between the Soviet Union and the United States, with completely destructible 3D battlefields, aggressive team-based multiplayer action and a focus on fast, hard-hitting battles.
World in Conflict presents a chillingly authentic Cold War scenario where the Berlin Wall never fell. Created by Cold War authority and best-selling author Larry Bond, the story begins in 1989 as the Soviets, fearing certain collapse, boldly advance into Europe. NATO responds in force only to be met on a second front -- a full-fledged invasion of the American homeland. Players take on the role of field commander, leading the era's most powerful military machines in the campaign to retake America's cities and suburbs.Check the World in Conflict details, screens and trailer (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=33180) over at WorthPlaying.

I saw it ealier today on Gamespot, I never liked Ground Control that much because it got to hard on some points. And Ground Control 2 was a little boring from what I played. But this still looks great beyond doubt.

It takes place during the 1980s, so a Soviet invasion is perfectly plausible. And besides, the Chinese are our friends! They make Barbie!

I got hit with that a couple of times.

RED DAWN! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087985/) Someone call up Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze! We need voiceovers!
On a related note, the director of Red Dawn, John Milius, also directed Medal of Honor: European Assault (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462418/). I hear he kept to the same standards of mediocrity.

Sorry - a little offtopic - but what happened to that Nuclear War game that came up a month or so ago? It was supposed to simulate the international tensions and such - but was not intended to be a graphically rich RTS. anyone remember the name?
Edit: I found my answer finally - DEFCON - being made by introversion studios - makers of darwinia.
