Is AvP really that bad?

AvP is 1/2 off on Steam right now, and I'm tempted to pick up the game for the singleplayer. But looking on the Steam forums and metacritic, the game got mediocre scores and has generated a really negative backlash in the forums. I did play the multiplayer demo and enjoyed it for what it was, but I found it repetitive after just a few days. I don't think I would invest much time in that portion of the game. Is this game worth $25 if I mostly play the single player? Or is the single player so bad that I should avoid this title even at that price?

The single player sucks. The levels are small and confined and all three races share the same levels.

The only good aliens type game in the last decade was AvP2.

I was excited and ready to buy this game back when it was released...until I learned about the cheapo kills feature. AvP2 is indeed the best.

the single player is pretty fun. the full multiplayer modes, which I believe not all multiplayer is in the demo, is pretty good. you might as well get it if it is on sale. but then again, AVP2 was in ways, a much better game. at the sale price, it seems pretty good. you will most likely get your moneys' worth from it.

the kills thing is pretty annoying. sure, it is fun-in single player. but in multiplayer? then it becomes somewhat cheap. most newbies go predator, walk up behind you (you'll never notice a cloaked predator walking in from behind!) and then just hit the button for a kill. sure, they are a humiliation kill to an extent, but any humiliation type kill should be, well, humiliating. like getting knifed in CS. that is embarrassing. the stealth/finishing kills had the potential to be really good, but they tripped up there.

Thanks for the advice and reviews guys, sounds like I won't be picking this up for MP content for sure.
