I really hate it. Not dislike it. Hate it. It's more marketing in your face advertising and diminishes the interface for enjoying the games I've purchased.

I disagree.
I also like it. Quite a bit actually. If you don't want to see all the bells and whistles, don't open the store and just use your library and friends list. It's 10x more functional than the xbl store and 20x less the eyesore.

I don't base my standards on shitty consoles. This comparison fails hard.

You can turn it back to looking like the old one, right? What = problem?

Small View. No thrills no frills
Yep. Small Mode is exactly what i wanted from it, i actually prefer it to the old small view.

The new "library" kills the old "games" tab. It used to be a simple alphabetical list with favorites that float to the top. Now you can sort by installed, favorites, and recently played. Also, recently played games are listed on the tray icon.

Comparing 2 services that perform the same service is hardly a failed comparison. Would you rather me compare it to Games for Windows Live? There, I just did.

Have to say I think the new UI is a massive improvement. I especially like how they touched up the in-game interface and the game library. Much easier to browse the store now too. It's nice having a section specifically for the running specials.
It's cleaner looking and more functional. I think you might have missed the different interface options on your first passover? If it's the detail view on the library that's bothering you, there are different ways to view that (check the upper right on the library screen, or hit view-> small mode). I kinda like having all the right-click options and the news feed right there ready to go though. Saves a ton of clicking and missed news updates on my part. I have a big friends list too, nice to see who has what (and being able to look at their stats) without checking each community page individually.
To each his own I guess.

While I haven't tried it yet, it's just one more reason to see such proprietary intermediate software for what it is: unnecessary.
No, I'm not trolling and I read that the IE usage in Steam has been removed. Good. Nevertheless we have to eat what they serve, whatever it is.
Please don't feel offended by my opinion.

As I recall, it's Webkit, the same engined used in Safari? Or is it Gecko. Can't recall.
And, welcome to EvAv ;)
edit: It uses Webkit, same engine used in Safari. Firefox uses Gecko. Google Chrome uses webkit also. Either would've been far better than IE, so good for them.

I am trying to remember the last time I saw you post on something you DID like. :p
The new UI is great. More info readily available, and looks better. Its nice they finally updated it to something more modern, and down with all who hate change.

It would be nice if the Steam Community portion had as much uptime as the Store.

I HATE change, especially pennies.
Edit: I just realized one change I want, and want now. When I'm in my library of games and click on a game, whether installed or not, I would like to see, underneath the install/play (depending on whether it's installed or not) button a list of ANY third-party DRM associated with the title. I want it right there, prominently displayed, so I can avoid installing games that have DRM I don't like. Steam is DRM enough, in my view. Extra layers of DRM suck.
DO IT VALVE! PLEASE! I don't want to have to visit the store page to check this out. Put it right on the game's library page.

Umm. If it's on your library page, don't you already own the title?

I have about 170 games and only about 40 are installed, therefore I have a whole mess of titles whose DRM is also not installed because the title itself is not (and has never been) installed, many purchased with packages and as a result I don't know the third-party DRM for all of them. I'd like that information on the library page. Badly.
