Legit Reviews is reporting (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/324/1/) that Dell's $10,000.00 gaming PC, the XPS 600 Renegade (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10920&highlight=dell), has Sold Out.
When Dell put the systems on sale last week, they were jam packed with the latest in technology, which the price reflected. The Dell XPS 600 Renegade system came with the Dell 3007WFP 30-inch flat panel monitor and prices started at $9,930. While we saw many publications joke about the rich buying these and some stated that no one in their right mind would buy these gaming systems, Legit Reviews found out that they sold out in under a week! Who is laughing now?Looks like I'm in the wrong business. Not bad for about $2500.00 in parts and some paint.

Since those cases were hand painted, you can pretty much bet that they made 10 or less.

I ordered 3 myself...I needed some computing power in the bathroom, garage, and porch.
These should suffice for a bit.

So maybe if I buy some new technology, buy a white case and get it hand painted by a fantasy artist I can make 7-8000$ outta it. Well dang, guess I dont have any big name advertising / selling my product though. The only real amazing thing about that machine was the GPU and the monitor, monitor was probably the most expensive part, well I spose the paint job too, but really just how many people see your case every day?
Eh. Some people have nice jobs, no kids, and can afford luxury items like these.
I don't think they're dumb. I think they're worthy of emulation. ;)

Yeah, that's was I was thinking. Without numbers, this just looks like a blurb that will keep some investors happy.

In fairness, the monitor alone is $2500 bucks. Still....way too expensive.

Yea, "selling out" doesn't tell much about the quantity sold. Still, I'm sure they made a nice amount on each one they sold, and claiming to be "sold out" just increases demand for if they make more.

I'd love to have the ready cash for one. I'd build the performance equivalent and use the rest for a nice vacation - or maybe two.

Looks like I'm in the wrong business. Not bad for about $2500.00 in parts and some paint. While I agree the price listed is absurd, I fail to see how you come up with $2500 for this system. The 30" flat panel monitor alone is $2500. The 4 7900 gxt video cards alone would also be $2000, and that's using pricewatch.com prices. I can't imagine the motherboard, cpu, and memory together by themself being less then $2000.

Figure:
4 7900GTX's about $2000
Ram: $500-$600
Mobo: At most $200
CPU: $400
So, at most just for parts, minus moniter, $3200
With Moniter $5700
So, you're paying about $4300 for a paintjob?
Oops, forgot the HDD's
So maybe at most for PC without moniter, $4000? Maybe less?

You have to factor in the cost of the bundled software as well, as Dell probably doesn't install downloaded copies of WindowsXP and so forth. Probably...

Don't forget that DELL can get those parts waaay cheaper than you can Smoof, as they will not be paying $500 a card.
But I am willing to paint PC cases for anyone. I can write 'bling bling' on the side in glitter for rapstars, and I can glue pictures of fire onto the cases for rockers. I can also staple camo onto the case for the hunter look. If you bring me taxidermied animals, I will nail those on as well. You know you want a bald eagle on your case.

They're essentially just doing what Alienware does all the time - no wonder they're buying them out.

Just so I don't raise the ire of all you wonderful people, how much is one allowed to spend on a computer? Or any other purchase for that matter?

There are not 4 7900GTX cards in the system, rather 2 cards with two GPUs on each card. I think they call that the 7900GTX2. Then again I could be wrong. Still, I don't think they go for $1000 a piece.

The idea of Dell selling out of PC's is pretty funny. I mean.. can't they just make more? I believe they have the ability to do that... they own a factory, etc.

Like Librum said, it's nothing new, they just took it to the next level. If i made million a year, would i buy one? Yeah i would. Why? Because i could :D
Some people happen to have shitloads of money, and they need something to spend it on.

I didn't wanna say it, but EAvatar is currently facing an internal struggle over how best to split 30 comps over the 6 of us...and the contest. At one point we almost settled on taking all of them apart and dividing the parts by the pounds.

Still can't look across the way and see the grass and trees rendered In Oblivion. Wasted $10000 for nothing.

I've got my grass turned all the way up, and while I can't look across the bay and see the grass, if I'm standing at the top of a hill, the grass is rendered really fucking far out there. I mean, to the point where I can't really tell where it's being brought in.

Well, at least its better than spending it on crystal covered designer cell phones and half drunk bottles of Cristal.

What is so wrong with this, every single one of you guys would dump $10k on one of these if you COULD. Difference is you CANNOT and decide to bitch about it.

No I wouldn't. See, I have these things called consumer awareness and technical know-how. I know how much a system like this should cost based on its various parts and it's nowhere near $10k. I also know that with $10k you could buy a god damn car that won't be out-of-date in three years when The Next Great Thing comes out in PC Gaming.

yeah they have a factory to make the computers, but they still need artists to hand paint the cases (which is a big part of the price) and you cant just mass produce that.

Simply wrong, I have the money but I think I would rather get a new car then an over priced PC.

My point exactly, you do not have the money to dump $10k on a pc. Instead you bring up "tech know how" and "I would rather have a car". I agree with you both. But when you can spend $10k without worrying about it then come back to me and answer the question.
