This video features one of the most exciting aspects of any MMO let alone a Star Wars one. Combat!

I wish this game didn't look like ass, because it's being developed by one of the best studios. :(

The graphics suck, but they're probably taking a page from the Blizzard playbook when it comes to that. Catering to crap PCs just to guarantee more subscribers.

I like their philosophy that in other MMOs, you have a large group of players beating on one enemy and that isn't very heroic. In this game, you're gonna be fighting off large groups of enemies by yourself.
(Of course, I played a prot paladin and took on dozens of foes at a time almost daily, lol, especially while grinding. Used to do some low level dungeons in a single pull :P And I totally pwned the Murloc boss in SSC, tanking the boss and the murlocs at once ^_^).
Anyway, there is this cool moment in the video at 1:36, where the Jedi dude dispatches two robots, and it ends up that there's one left and its behind him, and he raises his lightsaber behind him, without looking, and by that deflects an incoming blaster-bolt from the robot--that was cool ^_^
What I don't like: there's no lightsaber damage apparent on enemies?!?!?!?!?! WHY???? I want to see temporary burn marks appear on humanoids, black and red, and I want to see robots with glowing, melting metal marks. Make it happen, Bliz... I mean, Bioware!
LOL at 1:45, freakin Subzero. You know tons of fanboys are going to have that move macro'd to a yell: "Come over here!"
2:50, WTF, he's not even out of grade school and he's a lead designer??? :o?
3:00, nice, reverse stab, lovin' the varied combat system they have--vast improvement over WoW's fairly repetitiveness / blandness. The graphics being cartoon-shaded don't bother me at all. They're probably smart to follow WoW on that front, accommodate as many setups graphically as possible.
4:00, class run-down. Jedi and bounty-hunter appeal to me the most. Probably would run with Jedi, too fun.
4:05, "We have to make sure that all classes are balanced against each other."
Yeah, that's the problem, huh. Well, using the Force is a huge advantage, so it's a nerf of jedi's to balance them classwise, and huge boost to things like troopers. For a trooper to compete with a master Jedi... how the fuck do you balance that? In the comics, Luke Skywalker (after VI) was surprised by an imperial walker as he came out of a cave. The walker (2-leg) quickly trained its guns on Luke, as he turned and saw it, and got off a blast. Luke barely moved. He fired up the lightsaber, its blade held horizontally in front of him, catching both bolts along the length of its blade and directing them perfectly back at the imperial walker which was completely destroyed. Luke kept walking.
I mean, seriously, how is a storm trooper, at any level, ever supposed to compete with a master Jedi?
Master Jedi walks out of the bar, trooper yells, "Hey you, stop!" Jedi turns around, a ball of lightning in his hand. At this point the trooper can do what exactly? Cry for mommy while he's being force-choked? What's his defense against being force-choked??? He's gonna have to be firing antimatter bullets in the first place to even have a chance.
I still say that for a trooper to be competitive you should arrange them in a squad of three with all three being controlled by a single player--effectively he gets three lives against the Jedi :P Would play similarly to, saw, Syndicate (which had you controlling 4 agents at once).

...are you going to get sucked into another MMO Anenome? I figured after WoW you wouldn't do crack again.

Looks like fun. Why can't more Star Wars games have lightsabers that actually decapitate? I know its probably a programming issue but it always looks wrong.

I'm tempted, certainly, but nah, I got another year of school yet. No MMOs till that's done. Life comes first :P

I could never get into a game with an art direction like that, especially since it looks it's "E for everyone" rated. It made wow look like a more violent engaging game.
I'm just going to wait for the vampire mmo by CCP or maybe give secret world a try.

Oooh, yeah, the White Wolf vampire MMO is definitely something I could get into. Might have to play a werewolf 8D

I haven't heard anything on that since 2006. I know they're working on it here in Atlanta at the CCP offices, I just wonder why the radio silence...

Well everything is slower in the south. Blow jobs take an hour... it's ridiculous.

That combat doesn't look bad, but I need to see it less from the cinematic PoV and more from the actual game mechanics. They said they're striving against repetition, and I do like the sound of that. Still just words at this point though, even with fancy cinematics.
Sign me up as another person eagerly awaiting the WoD MMO. CCP's track record combined with the World of Darkness universe is a recipe for fail-proof win if there ever was one.

There have been some official confirmations of work starting... think there was a "we're going to start in 2009" message at some point in 2008, and we got an official "we've gotten underway!" message last year. Other than that, pretty much nothing.
I'm guessing we'll see more news here (http://www.ccpgames.com/en/products/world-of-darkness.aspx) at some point. There was some leaked in-house document that indicated they'd have something to show us this year, but I don't put a whole lot of stock into that stuff. Hopefully they'll have something in store for some of the game shows coming up.
That physics vid is hawt. If the game looks anything like that, I'm already sold.

One of the main reasons I dislike the new KoTOR is while watching that video you get to know the developers. They are the quintessential bunch of young geeks who would expect to be die hard Star Wars fans and computer wizards right down to the 14yr old guy with the forehead 3 times the size of his face.
These guys did not grow up on episodes 4, 5, and 6 where you could chop off an alien's arm in a bar and leave a bloody stump or eviscerate your mount and climb into the warm innards to fend off frostbite. These guys are modeling the game off episodes 1, 2, and 3 along with that abortion of an animated clone wars series they had on sci-fi. Even SOE is jumping on the SW kiddie bandwagon with a F2P clone wars game coming up.
The art style looks like utter crap and whimsy. There is no way they could EVER balance the classes within canon causing a clusterfuck of nerd rage. The game may play smooth or have a nice story, but all that aside they are seriously shooting for the lowest common denominator with this one.

I think the problem with MMOs is that everyone who plays one seriously "imprints" on it, and judges all future MMOs by it.
Thus, any future MMO that's too much alike the one you used to play and broke away from will be disliked. This game can therefore only pickup first time MMOers, generally.
An MMO reflects the time you put into it. Thus starting over as a newb on some new game kinda sucks :P
I want something like this: And now for something completely different...
Maybe the World of Darkness MMO. That's a universe that doesn't pose the disparity of class-balance problems of Star Wars.
MMO makers: stop trying to be like WoW or Guild Wars, etc. An MMO is any world with shared-user space where constant online interaction adds value to the experience. Technically, this website, EvilAvatar, is an MMO! You could make a Tetris MMO! You don't -have- to even have persistent polygonal avatars that can walk places through a digital world. It can be as easy as having a menu everyone can access. Hell, this (http://nonoba.com/chris/everybody-edits.swf) is an MMO, and a damn fine free one, it's called: Everyone Edits, (http://nonoba.com/chris/everybody-edits.swf) and it's damn fun! (my personal playground is the 2nd world from the top left corner, to the right.)
