Praise be to the gods of classic gaming: that nifty voxel-rendered game you've read about (but were told your fancy-shmancy Windows box cannot play) is ready to inhabit the future right alongside you.

Today, GoodOldGames / GOG.com released Outcast (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/outcast), which had been among their community's Top10 most-wanted games. $5.99 for your DRM-free copy and scads of extras.

Insta-buy: I've been waiting years to try this one.

I love voxel rendering, I consider it the future because of the advantages it has over polygons. Recent games, like this one, only use it for the landscape, but as computers become more powerful more uses can be had. Count me in ;)

Looks great. Loving the art direction and scale and the height-map tree trunks.

Sweet, purchased and started downloading before I even made a comment.

GOG also released the first and second Master of Orion (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/master_of_orion_1_2). I can finally destroy solar systems on a Vista x64 machine. And there was much rejoicing.

I have this one on CD-ROM. I had heard some people mentioning that it was one of those 'Rare' games, but I couldn't remember what the game was about.

Awesome! I already play the original every once in a while in DOSBox, but I never pass up a chance to give GoG some business when they bring back my favorites.

Why don't you just play MoO 3?

This game was neat at the time, and a real system killer back then as well. Much worse than Crysis is now, in fact. I didn't know a single person who could run this game at higher resolutions (was 1024*768 the max for this game?). It's a bit of an anachronism today, in both it's rendering tech and gameplay. Not to say that that is a bad thing. It's just a totally different game than the ones the yung-uns are are used to.

Outcast pwned open world gaming before GTA3 was even released(by two years). It was the first really well developed 3D open worlds. The alien lanuage is translatable to a point where you can learn to easdrop, you can sabotage supply lines, and he must have the weirdest savior name I've ever heard, U'lukai.

I really wish this IP would get revived. One of the apexs of 90s games.

Next time they'll release "Blood + Expansions" for $5.99

I'm really considering breaking my Steam-exclusive policy.

Sometimes I read about an old game and think 'where's the modern equivalent in terms of ambition'. Goes for MoO too.

I could never get past the control scheme in this game. Maybe they have changed it a bit, but I remember really wanting to get into it and just not finding a groove with the interface.

Dude/Chica, if that's true, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Blood was rawesome. It would look hella sweet next to Duke3D on my virtual bookshelf.
