You may now chime in with: "pwnophobia is sexist", because that is totally what I was shooting for with that question. /sarcasm

While I admire their dedication to the stores and I understand their reasons for doing so, I think that it may be a bit outdated. The future (or shall I say Present) of gaming is online. I know they have a "tabletop" system on D&D Insider. Why aren't they promoting that system more?

D&D is traditionally done face to face and should continue to be that way. If you want an online RPG you should pick one of the hundreds of MMOs available :).

D&D Insider's largest draw for consumers when it was initially announced a few years ago was the ability to play the game through the DDI interface from wherever across the internet. That didn't quite pan out as it should have, so there are some features that are not included or scaled back from what they originally announced. As it stands it is a good resource for information, and there are many tools included that can help you manage a campaign as a Dungeon Master or as a Player Character. One thing that is annoying for print books that is pretty good for DDI is if there is errata released, the source material is all updated on their system, so you do not need to print out errata pages to bring along w/ your books while you play. Of course that only works if you have a internet connection where you are playing which is probably rare these days not to have it.

It is cheap when you know that both subscriptions for Dragon Magazine as well as Dungeon Magazine are included which were a few bucks each month(which I had been a subscriber to in the past) but is a big miss as far as expecting to be able to run a full on game module w/ your friends from across the country.
