Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6146324.html) has the scoop on a major milestone in the XBox Live Market place. Microsoft announced at GDC that the Market Place has completed over 10 million transactions and downloads.

The tech giant also revealed that more content for Xbox Live is on the way. The company confirmed that new achievements and automobiles will be available for Project Gotham Racing 3, new multiplayer maps are headed to Perfect Dark Zero, and an online cooperative mode for Kameo: Elements of Power will be ready soon. The company did not say whether said downloads would be free or, as is more likely, come at a price.
oooooh. New achievements. Me likey! Nice to see the Co-Op patch FINALLY coming to Kameo.

This question brushes against the topic here. What's the point of acheivement points? Do they translate to stuff you can buy eventually? Is it just bragging rights?

Bragging rights mostly. I just like the achievement itself. It's a small defined global goal for a game. Gives me something to shoot for, and anyone can see when I accomplish that.

Or in some cases, makes a challenge to hack the system and give yourself more points, than possible with all the games combined ;)

I hate achievements myself. Mostly because I have like 10 games but only a gamerscore of about 300. Sucks letting the world know how much you suck! :)

I actually dont suck that bad, I just cant dedicate too much time to one game, damn ADD. Hopefully Oblivion fixes that and I get nearer to the full score for this one.

Achievements are utterly brillaint. I now play the HELL out of games that sometimes I might just mearly barely finish. I expect Sony and Nintendo to have something similar.

Does this mean you'll be able to get more than 1000 points out of PGR3?
Or did it ship with a maximum gamerscore of under 1000?
I want games I actually like to get more achievements if it's the former. 8(

PGR3 has 900 max right now. So this is probably the other 100.

I really hope the gaming community organizes some sort of consensus as how to defend ourselves against "downloadable content for a price".

If we don't defend ourselves, it's going to turn into this stupid money vacuum where in order to enjoy a game you have to pay a ridiculous total amount over a long period of time.

"60 dollars will get you the base game, but to really enjoy the game you need to xxx booster pack. The xxx armor pack. The xxx town pack. The xxx weapon pack. The xxx adventure pack. And the xxx graphics pack. All totalling 175 dollars, but man its it's almost as good as Zelda 3!"

The inverse can be true too. If by extension through microtransactions, we dont end up having to buy full sequels or updates, we the consumers can save money. Guess it depends on the volume of content available at what price. So long as the base game was a full valued game and not gimped for the purposes of later sales, im ok with it.

Actually there is a 840 max right now. The online professional is glitched out and will not unlock. Hopefull the patch/dlc will fix it as well.

They're about to get their 10,000,001 transaction this afternoon, as my 360 is about to arrive at my doorstep. Huzzah!

Geometry Wars shall be mine. Any other must-have Live Arcade titles?

If you like Geo Wars, be sure to try Mutant Storm. Wik is also great.

I got bored of Wik pretty damned quick. So far Ive picked up G.W (great), Gauntlet ( ... you know ), Bejewelled ( Wife, actually fairly addictive ) and just recently Marble Blast, which I sofar, highly recommend.

Anyone know if the BF 2 demo is still supposed to be released today (3/24/06)?

So do you think they'll charge you for that final 100?

How come there aren't 1000 in the game to begin with? Isn't that a requirement of all 360 games?

Grath

Its not a requirement. GRAW has less than 1000, Kameo has much less you can achieve right now. And noone said they will charge for this stuff.

Kameo has 1000. Lots of people have it.

I'm not sure, it was supposed to be a requirement but quite a few games don't max out at 1000. You can see how many the max is on the XBox page when you look at your gamercard. Some, like Condemned max at 960. I'm not sure why they did that.

I think the shortage on graw is for the co-op missions they will be releasing in the future.

yeah, I know. That's also something that bothers me. Much like with cross platform games now, there's no advantage to getting the game early becuase the added features are usually of no consequence to people who have already played the game. I mean, clearly GTA on Xboox is the greater experiance, but what if you already owned the game on PS2? Do you buy it again?

Likewise, with Oblivion, if you bought the game on day one and played through the whole thing, what's your advantage to having horse armor months after you have already beat the game?

Likewise, with Oblivion, if you bought the game on day one and played through the whole thing, what's your advantage to having horse armor months after you have already beat the game?Oblivion's not really the kind of game where beating it is the goal. I see where you're coming from, but Oblivion is one of the few places where it would actually work to keep releasing additional content. For example if they released new costumes for Kameo, I'm not sure I'd get them, the game's already done. I bought the Christmas outfits because they were out at the time. So I think depending on the kind of game it is the extra content could either be ignored or add to the longevity of the game.

Some, like Condemned max at 960. I'm not sure why they did that.
My bet is they wanted to give themselves some extra points so they could patch in acheivements, or perhaps something got cut and they didn't want to adjust other stuff. It's likely that MS restricts games to a max of 1000 pts, with no minumum (since falling short doesn't really hurt the system for other games like going over does).
