The Fantasy Earth Zero (http://fez.gamepotusa.com/) 2nd open beta begins today.

I had actually not even heard of this game until today, but it's published by Square-Enix and is F2P.

Hello everyone,

We would like to invite all of you to join the Fantasy Earth Zero Open Beta 2!

Please join us on March 17th, 2010 as we start the second Open Beta.

Please keep checking our website for updates on the time the beta will begin.

=Fantasy Earth Zero Staff=

Does anybody out there have some firsthand knowledge of this game? I might download the beta and give it a try, looks like a decent pvp-geared title.

I hear it's not too bad, but it now follows the typical F2P Korean MMO model (like Maple Story, FlyFF, etc), where the game is "free" but you are encouraged to buy their currency for real cash to keep the game going. Also there's this:

Several months after the release, Square Enix canceled the game because of severe lack of demand. The publishing rights to the game were later bought by Gamepot, where the game has enjoyed much greater success as they dropped the subscription based element present when under Square Enix's PlayOnline service, and became a "Free to Play" game, having recently announced over 300,000 users.

That being said, it's free, so the most you have to lose is your time and hard-drive space.

Iiiiinteresting, I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't bought by 'GameStop'.

I saw a few youtube videos of gameplay, and it seems like a cross between WoW and Age of Empires. I think I'll dl it this weekend and give her a try. :)

The playstation 1 graphics were an instant turn-off.
