Sony Computer Entertainment today officially announced SCEA Santa Monica Studios' PS2 exclusive God of War II, a groundbreaking, combat action-adventure videogame based on Greek mythology, where you will get reacquainted with the vicious ex-Spartan warrior Kratos and embark on the continuing epic odyssey.

In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War – far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed, his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars.Check more God of War II details (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=32866) over at WorthPlaying.

I thought I saw something here on EA about this just the other day. But I suppose it wasn't an "official announcement" by Sony? I also thought I heard David Jaffe wasn't going to be involved in this one, but WP seems to indicate that he will be.

Edit: Also, do all Worthplaying articles repeat themselves as much as this one to create the illusion of more content?

I swear they just type up a half a paragraph for these press release type of things, then run it through some hyperbole adjective/verb processor.

groundbreaking! breath-taking! brutal! intricately woven puzzles!

...You didn't invent something, you have some pretty animations and lots of blood, now stop shoving PR crap down our throat and telling us it's innovative and breathtaking. I just want to kill things in ancient Greece.

I realize the PS2 install base is/will be much greater than the PS3 install base by the time this game is released but it still would have been a lot cooler if the game was on the PS3.

You're assuming there will be a PS3 by the time GOW2 is released.

The planned release date for the game is in the first quarter of 2007. The PS3 comes out in November.

I was making...a joke. About how set in stone the release day is for the PS3.

Thanks. :) You just made a very, very bad day a bit better.

what's so groundbreaking about a sequel? What was groundbreaking about the original? It was awesome, but not new. Perhaps, being one of the most gorgeous games on the PS2? One of the only PS2 games in progressive format?
