Thanks to Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com) for the news (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=4070).
Arkadium today announced the launch of Great Day Games, a new free online games website for women.
Great Day Games (http://www.greatdaygames.com/) features over fifty online casual games such as Mah Jongg, Sudoku, and Solitaire and reaches out to women specifically with its unique branding, design and "Treats" prizing. Today's woman, whether running a Fortune 500 Company, a car pool, or managing both, has limited "Me" time. Great Day Games provides a great escape for women seeking a quick challenge or a fun distraction, by offering games designed with them in mind.
Great Day Games encourages gamers to play its addictive, free online games by offering "Treats" for each game played. "Treats," the currency of Great Day Games, can be redeemed for chances to win prizes from a growing list of online sweepstakes. Current prizing includes gift cards to key retail and beauty product merchants.
For those women looking for a little friendly competition, Great Day Games offers leaderboards with all of its games. "Great Day Games has been created solely for women and moms looking for a quick escape from the everyday. It's time that this large segment of the online games community be catered to and we can't wait to do it," said John Ebbert, Arkadium's Director of Online Marketing.
Treats? Nothing like patronzing women on a 'women only' website. Sterling marketing job, folks. Gasp, the Director of Online Marketing is a MAN!

Wow. If I were a female gamer I'd be more than slightly offended.

If I showed my girlfriend this she'd die laughing, then go straight back to Guitar Hero.

"Great Day Games has been created solely for women and moms looking for a quick escape from the everyday.Interesting. Women with children are no longer women, but merely moms.
In any event, I'm probably being overly critical on that point but everything about this seemingly drips with condescension. Unless, of course, I'm just really cynical. It could be that. But c'mon now. Treats? What are their users, dogs?

Sigh. Everything these days is cause for indignation and outrage.

Your post outrages me. I thrust my righteous indignation in your face.
..
I bought this ginger tea from a a store once, it said "Great for women and old men." This release reminds me of that package.

This is clearly aimed at a casual female audience. Deep down, everybody enjoys games... everybody enjoys puzzles.
If you were in that crowd of women that are non-gamers but that may be interested in gaming if there were realistic incentives... this is aimed towards that. It's not the best idea in the world, but it's one smart way to increase interest. It's not patronizing.
Women (certainly those in their 30's and 40's) are more inclined to try more accessible titles first before experimenting with deeper stuff. This is a large part of the theory behind Nintendo DS and Revolution, and games like Nintendogs and Brain Training.

Fucking 'TREATS', though?

I bet they give their users 'timeouts' if you get too much 'impolite' feedback. ;)

Treats are for dogs. My girlfriend hates when I pet her on the head and snap my fingers for her to come. I'd expect she wouldn't like this site either.
No wonder Feminists are so pissed off. This website is really patronizing.
Oh well, there is no shortage of bad websites out there. Chalk this one up in the "lose" column.

I wonder if you can use the treats to get Unicorn stickers?

It's not the idea, it's the word used. Any other word, seriously. Hell, use Points.

What about the chicks that wanna blow shit up? Where are their "treats". I love that no matter how PC this country tries to be we are still sexist as hell...in both ways. I find it very offensive that women are automatically assumed to be the parent of "choice" when it comes to kids. How about dads who don't have a lot of "me" time? eh? Fuckers. :)

It's definitely not going to be appealing to any woman who comes here. It strikes me as more amusing than insulting.

The only thing on this website that indicates it's for Women only is the Page Description in the IE title bar. This could be for men and women. I have a hunch their Press release is geared to get people's attention.
I'll wager tons of male geeks will be using this site to try and meet women.

Good god! if I want to escape, it's not going to be with a puzzle game. Sure, I play some puzzle games, but it's usually WITH my 5 and 2 year olds when I am playing them, sometimes on my own, (usually when CoH/CoV servers are down for maintanence.) I may really suck at FPS and such, but gah, could it get ANY more condescending. But I'm an old school gamer, and my first console system was a Colecovision (and now, someone is going to go 'what's that' but that's okay). I'll just ignore the condensation, and move along.

Welcome to EvAv, Miaka. Don't lurk, this joint could do with a feminine touch at times (if only for housekeeping duties). :)
