Eidos Interactive sends along a Press Release announcing their upcoming shooter, Just Cause, will be released on the Xbox 360 and current generation platforms.

Eidos Interactive, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, confirms today that Just Cause will be published on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Just Cause is being developed by Avalanche Studios and will be released in Autumn 2006.

In Just Cause, gamers play the role of a field operative and specialist in regime change charged with overthrowing the corrupt government of San Esperito. The rogue South American state is suspected of stockpiling weapons of mass destruction, and Rico's mission is to negate the threat this poses to world peace. Just Cause emphasizes player choice as it gives gamers the freedom to tackle missions as they choose: playing the island's factions against one another, inciting a rebellion among the masses and building alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels.

Pushing the capabilities of any console, Just Cause is set on an unprecedented scale in terms of missions and size. The massive world will take the average gamer over 40 minutes to cross, from one end of the island to the other, and that's without being distracted by one of the 300+ missions you could choose to accept along the way. The island can be explored by land, sea and air, as you will have at your disposal one of the most varied and exciting array of vehicles ever seen in a video game.

That's pretty gorgeous. It sounds like a Far Cry wannabe, but that's hardly a bad thing in itself.

So...is the game you fighting for a "Just Cause", or "Just 'cause"? I think this is unnecessarily confusing to the average american.

Well, they should have been a bit more honest about their inspiration here and just called the game Farther Cry.

Q: "Why did you guys make such a derivative game?"

A: "Just 'cuz."

The real 'Operation Just Cause' was when we invaded Panama, if anyone remembers that. Based on the plan originally known as 'Blue Spoon.' It sort of sounds like it may be based on that... Sort of. Loosely.

Just Cause was confirmed for 360 before this, and OXM describes it as "GTA in the jungle". Uh, wow?

I saw those screenshots and my first thought was, "What now? 'Farcry Instincts Predator Evolution Stalking?'"

Barring the obvious PR hype, i think it could be cool to be playing factions against one another, if they do it right, and not like "This bar is mostly full, and that bar is mostly empty, so that dude hates you and that dude likes you!"

If you could get like...favors from people by doing missions and play them against one another that would be sweet. But i don't think they'll figure out a good way to do that, so....:shrug
