Activision and Infinity Ward send along word that Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 has been updated and that two new multiplayer maps will be available for the PC version of the game at some unannounced future date.

Fans of the award-winning, blockbuster hit, Call of Duty 2, will be locked and loaded with today’s Title Update for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Inc., the Title Update offers significant enhancements, including improved multiplayer performance, the ability to reserve friend slots in private game lobbies, post-game lobbies so friends can play longer, configurable host options and more. The Xbox 360 update will be automatically applied the next time users log into Xbox Live with Call of Duty 2.

For fans of Call of Duty 2 for Windows PC, Infinity Ward and Activision have also revealed new details surrounding the upcoming release of a highly-anticipated update, which will include the previously announced PunkBuster anti-cheat technology, as well as two new multiplayer maps: Rhine and the longtime community favorite Harbor, from the original Call of Duty....and a dollar short.

If this would have come out before GRAW, then it may have been a bigger deal.

Better late than never.

That is exactly what I was thinking. After GRAW's 16 player multiplayer, Call of Duty 2's 8 player multiplayer doesn't seem much worthwhile.

I think Infinity Ward should have spent a little more time playing Halo 2 online before they developed Call of Duty 2's multiplayer. ;)

I particularly like how for consoles it's an 'update', and for PCs it's a 'patch.'

Read the above Press Release. They are trying to get away with calling the PC patch an "update" also - the PC patch that is pretty much a requirement since they forgot to include any anti-cheating software and then someone (I can't remember if it was ATVI or IW) was going around saying, "We aren't planning to patch the game since it didn't sell that well."

I love GRAW online but I'm willing to try out COD2 again.

Same here. It's about time they did this though. Let's pray it actually works now.

I'm still waiting for the price to come down on GRAW so an update to COD suits me pretty well. I haven't even bothered trying it online after reading all of the negative reports.

its interesting, i see alot of people complain bout the online part, 1. the maps werent big enuff to have 16 player games i think 8 fits it nicely for the size of the maps that are on 360 2. i have cable and when i hosted a game, i never had any lag, most of the time when i joined other peoples games there was lag (maybe there on dsl)

It seems that 75% of people on xbox live do not have a fast enough connection to play online. Between Halo 2 and COD2 I manged to get that figure. When a friend and I glitched a system link game into an online game, we would have 10-16 people without lag. Its weird. Glad to have the patch though, definitely going to play this online. While I like GRAW, I'd rather play COD2 online if no other firends are online. But I'd rather play GRAW co-op.

I would say that 75% of them don't know their hosting limits. I have plenty of bandwidth to play games, but I can forget about hosting anything more than 4 players. When you see people dropping from GRAW it is most likely because the host is trying to hold too many people on a connection that can't handle it.

I'm very glad of this 'update'. I'll still be playing CoD2 over multiplayer. To me GRAW and CoD2 are different games.

Now I need to get my copy of CoD2 back from my friend :D

It would be nice since the 360 is so "network aware" that it does some sort of bandwidth test as you start hosting a game, to determine a proper hosting #. That would take a lot of the guesswork out.
Or, do Halo2's method of picking the best host on game launch each time....

I'm happy about this too.

You know what sucks though? the press release. In one breath they tell us that they are fixing multiplayer (albeit 2 months late, but better than never), and in the second breath they tout that they are giving away new 2 maps for the PC version :( why not give them to us on 360 too? Might make more people wanna play COD2 again.

hopefully by the time i get my hands on a 360 COD2 will be 20$, then ill be able to play and be happy till GRAW drops (if ever). That way i cant complain about how COD2 multi is weenier.
