Remember Torchlight, that huge breakout hit from Runic Games? Well they're putting "serious effort" into getting Torchlight onto consoles. We've contacted Runic Games in order to get more information.

"We're going to put some serious effort into it — pretty quick — getting 'Torchlight' onto consoles," Max Schaefer, CEO of Runic games says."There's a lot of really cool things about the console world, too, that would work well with our game."

From Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5491696/torchlightfor-consoles-maybe) via MTV (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/03/11/torchlight-looking-for-a-way-onto-consoles/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MultiplayerBlog+%28Multiplaye r+Blog%29&utm_content=Google+Reader).

Update - Received this response from Runic Games:

100% no BS, everything is just talk. No decisions have been made not even gentleman's agreements.

This game could work well on consoles. I really enjoyed the two Baldur's Gate console games (yes, different from the PC versions by light years, but great fun).

Be a fool not to.

Yeah, this game really doesn't require a PC or a mouse and keyboard. I also think it'd be a good fit for a console.

Yesssssss, I have been hoping for a 360 version ever since you guys here starting talking about this game, it sounds so great but my PC is ancient.

Agreed. Loved the Dark Alliance games and if this would control similar it would be perfect. 20 dollar XBLA game and I'd buy it.

If you've ever played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/baldursgatedarkalliance?q=baldur%27s%20gate%20xbox ) BG: DA II, (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/baldursgatedarkalliance2?q=baldur%27s%20gate%20xbo x) Champions of Norrath, (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/championsofnorrathrealmsofeverquest?q=champions%20 of%20norrath) or Champions: Return to Arms, (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/championsbrothersinarms?q=champions%20of%20norrath ) you'll know what to expect, generally. Torchlight is a bit brighter (more colorful) than I prefer in my third-person, hack-n-slash, loot-collecting dungeon-crawlers, but it fills the niche nicely.

There aren't enough of these games any more, and they are truly my FAVORITE type of game. I can't get enough of them, because there's NOT enough of them. :( If Sony would put the Champions games on the PSN for download, I'd buy a PS3 for them right away. I like them that much.

Yes! I hope it gets done soon. I want to scoop this up on XBLA.

Dollars to donuts they have MS and Sony knocking on their door. Sony trying to pay for an exclusive. MS crooning about achievements and DLC.

I think I would get it, if it had multiplayer and co-op for PS3. It would be pretty fun.

It's more likely that Runic Games wants to bring it to the console, not Sony/MS begging them to get it on there.

Well, the PC version doesn't have any kind of multiplayer, so that woudl take some real reworking.

Not one computer I own (old Linux and Mac machines) is able to run this so I would buy it for the 360 in a heartbeat.

I played and owned every single one of those with my brother. Dark Alliance 2 was the most memorable, but all were worth the money and time investment. ah.. memories.

I could see this one doing very well on consoles at the right price point. The art style is perfect for all ages. The only problem is, the console version could have multiplayer which would piss off the PC community.

As good as Torchlight already is, it's a hell lot better with mods.
There are dozens of great small mods for little gameplay things, like bigger potion stacks and new pets and minions, extra vendors, spells, classes...

And some awesome Chinese gamers just released an amazing huge mod with lots of cool traditional chinese folklore creatures and spells and areas. Including a deer mount.

But i guess it's better to have just vanilla TL than no TL. <shrugs>

Great idea, but see this (http://www.amazon.com/Sacred-2-Fallen-Angel-Xbox-360/dp/B001IKHVTE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1268445093&sr=1-1) as an example of how to do this style of game badly.

I don't know what a good price point would be. I picked it up for $5 during a Steam sale... hard to be that.

That is also an example of a good game I avoided due to Starforce.

This would be sweet...I would probably rebuy it if they brought it out on 360.

Very much so.
To make the process as easy as possible, am open and shameless ripoff of WoWMatrix was made by the mod community. Just grab that and you have a list of practically all of the mods, complete with user ratings.

I had to get the mod that grants you an item to permanently morphology your pet into a Charizard.

They're very open about their inspiration, at least. It's a setup that works very well...why try to fix it when it's not broken?

Yeah, Torchleech is pretty much required to play TL. But I don't think the huge Chinese Folklore mod is there. It's on the Runic Games forums though, shouldn't be hard to find.

Bleh here it is (http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=11436)

Thank,s I'll try out Torchleech. Back in the day, Wowmatrix was amazing, until they shut it down.

My god, seriously? Those are absolutely favourite games of mine! I played all 4 of those to death, maxing out almost every character in each game and hassling every friend of mine who's ever shown interest in gaming, even accidentally, in to sitting down with me and grabbing l00tz.

I even bought a multitap and extra controllers just for the Champions games.

Damn, now I'm looking forward to an XBLA version of Torchlight even more.

Damn, now I'm looking forward to an XBLA version of Torchlight even more.

It's not nearly as deep as the four I mentioned, and it lacks a bit of variety, but it's a very fun game in the same vein. As a downloadable title it would be a blast.

I have to recommend it for PC, if at all possible for you, because of the mods. I've been messing with Torchleech and it has me back into the game after a long layoff. I bought the game for $20 and I've easily gotten 150 hours out of it at this point, with more to come now that I have easy mod access (I'm lazy, and Torchleech centralizes many of the mods for me. :o). I'd buy it on a console if that was my only avenue, however, but keep in mind it's not nearly as deep as those four other titles. The content (enemies, environments) becomes a bit repetitive after a while.

Great fun, however. Now I have a hankering to get my BD: DA out and give 'er a go again; by far my favorite style of game, above all else. There's something about the third-person loot collecting action RPG that hits the sweet spot for me. :)
