Sega's European Blog (http://blogs.sega.com/europe/2010/03/08/first-dlc-swarms-to-aliens-vs-predator/) has posted the news about the first $DLC multiplayer maps for Aliens vs. Predator.

The first downloadable content for Aliens vs Predator will shortly be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms. Featuring 4 new maps for different multiplayer modes, previously only available in the Special Editions, this downloadable content will challenge all three species for the fight of their existence.

Two new Multiplayer maps for six different online modes (Deathmatch, Predator Hunt, Infestation, Species Deathmatch, Mixed Species Deathmatch and Domination): Docks: The caustic alkali waters of BG-386 put an end to Weyland-Yutani’s planned shipping activities.
Machine: As well as processing exotic ores, the BG-386 Refinery provided electrical power to the colonists at Freya’s Prospect.
Two new Survivor maps in which up to four Marines battle to stay alive against increasing swarms of Aliens: Outpost: The site of the original Weyland-Yutani colony on BG-386 was abandoned, and soon reclaimed by the planet’s voracious jungle plant life.
Hive: Deep in the heart of the Freya’s Prospect Refinery lays the Xenomorph Hive.
The “Swarm Map Pack” will be available on 18 March for €5.99/ £4.79/ 560 Microsoft Points.

Good idea to widen the player base that can play these maps, but... the price seems a little steep?

Even fail games are using $DLC these days. ^

It's the sign of the apocalypse this is the next thing to truly screw over paying customers if and when the the sheeple wake up and realize 90% of their games are being withheld and sold to them later like pieces of hemlock candy.

I bought AvP. Very disappointed they are working on DLC when the multiplayer on the PC is something near completely broken. They still don't have dedicated servers available, which were supposed to be up at release. This results in peer hosted games which are rarely stable, and if the host-peer leaves the game ends and everyones' experience and stats are lost.

Further, there is no auto-balancing for lobbies, you can't switch teams, and the auto-team making mechanism often does insane things like have 2 versus 8, then starts the game.

I don't know what the fuck is going on with the multiplayer. It is a solid and fun game, with a matchmaking system that was apparently thrown together and never tested.

Whyyyyy? Anyone following this website should know:
A. The dev's miserable reputation
B. The miserable reviews the game's gotten.

You had ample warning. I don't get it. You just couldn't pass-up a game with "Alien" and "Predator" in it? We gotta let the crap games die on the vine, ppl!

Nostalgia for the original game, hopeful feelings from the demo, a couple friends
purchased it first, and GoGamer had it on sale for $30. Honestly I'll play the most rotten pieces of shit if 2-3 of my friends will.

I am a multiplayer oriented gamer, especially for this franchise. I enjoy the gameplay, the matchmaking and servers just suck. Fixing those seems like a relatively small step for the developer.
